The Five D's

Vertina swings by Syx's farm and finds him trying to teach himself the Five D's the hard way.

Tolbana Farms

Dragontooth Farm is a real working farm, where Syx tends to do his best to keep some crops growing for the betterment of the alliance. Although he's also told the Doc that if he wants to try any weird new farming technologies, to let him go at it. Of course there is another field at the farm, one that doesn't have any crops.

It's been turned into a training field for Syx to use when he's not out hunting monsters or working the farm. At the moment he is on the training field. Several pumpkins have been set up on there, with some stacks of hay about ten yards away. Syx is currently trying to convince Meteor that he should kick the hell out of those pumpkins while Syx stands in front of the hay backstop, "C'mon. It'll work, trust me." He says to the peko, as the bird gives him a look that says 'No it won't'

Gee, wonder why so many of the locations established around Tolbana have dragon in their names and imagery. What a mystery.

Ever since picking up the skills for Cooking Vertina has made regular visits to the farms to collect ingredients, and grains for brewing, and herbs for various alchemy side projects. And moreso now that she had someone else working in the kitchen besides her. So it was little surprise that she happens to pass Syx's plot of land in time to see him arguing with the peko. She wanders over to lean on the fence. "I don't know what you're doing Syx, but that bird doesn't seem to like it very much."

Mostly because dragons are cool. Syx turns his attention over towards Vertina as she shows up, and then Meteor takes this opporitunity to run off, "Bah! Fine, I'll just ask Vertina instead. I bet she'll do it!" Syx yells at the retreating avian, before turning back to his friend and, at least in this case, customer, "Hey Vertina. Oh. Well you see I was going to have him kick those pumpkins at me while I stood there against the hay wall, and then try to dodge them." He seems pretty proud of having come up with this idea.

"But he seems to think he'll hurt me or something." He shrugs, "I got your order packed up nearby. You got a cart out there?" He asks, as he moves over towards some crates that are stacked nearby.

Vertina pffffs. "Since when have you seen me use a cart? Carrying stuff is just weight lifting with a purpose." She then pauses to look at the pumpkins. Turns her head to the hay wall. Back to the pumpkins.

"Well, he may not be entirely wrong," she adds as she vaults over to his side of the fence. "But he probably doesn't grasp that's part of the point." She trots over to inspect the pumpkins. "That and no offense to Meteor but I don't think he could contemplate the adjustments needed to propel a gourd due to it's not exactly spherical shape."

"Oh do you watch Pumpkin Chunkin' too?" Syx asks, with a totally serious look on his face, he really means it. He does grab a couple of the crates, "Grab those two too, then." He says, as he hefts the ones he's got, "The last fight we had against the gnolls just made me realize I ain't too good at evading stuff, at least not as good as I'd like to be." He says, "So I need to practice. But you're right, I don't think he gets that I'd dodge it." He hmms, "I'm pretty sure I've seen you dodge stuff like Neo though. Maybe you can give me some pointers or something?"

Vertina walks back over to pick up the other two crates, hefting them onto her shoulders with ease. "Yeah, those traps to harass people for the sniper. I remember that part. All the training I did in Karluin's labyrinth has paid off." She considers a moment, glances back at the pumpkins. "Well, at least you realize it's -how- you move rather than just moving faster. We can work with that."
Syx

"I mean that makes sense.." Syx says, "I'll have to think more like a luchadore than how I usually think, but it could work.." He hmms a little bit, "But yeah, the last time I tried to use Lightningstep it wasn't fast enough, and had I been able to twist a bit more I think I could have dodged an attack that got me."

He sets the two boxes onto the fence near the gate, "So you wanna meet up at those ruins soon? We can grab a few more folks on the way and knock it out."

"We can do that. But it's going to take more than just running through traps over and over." Vertina takes a step and leers dangerously to the side with the load she's carrying. It looks like she's stumbling, pitching her body in a turn to reverse direction, until her heel catchs the ground again and she leans into it, becoming clear that she was in control the entire time and it only -looked- like she nearly lost her balance. Imagine her doing that with a keg rather than some crates and it's got Drunken Master written all over it. "Like I was saying, it's not just moving fast, it's knowing -how- to move... the traps just give that little bit of edge that encourages the idea to stick. No risk, no reward, y'know?"
Syx

Syx actually moves to try to catch her, or the boxes, but ends up getting neither as she shows the full control she had. Syx does manage to catch himself and not fall though, he does stumble slightly, "Oh, well. Wow." Syx says, a big grin on his face, "I think you just proved your point to me. If I could do that kinda thing I'd be even more dangerous."

Vertina smirks as she shifts the crates in her arms back into position with a light roll of her shoulder. "Exactly. You're a professional athelete, your body is already highly tuned. We just need to teach it how to put that to use. You don't need to run circles around someone like I do. Just learn to move your body quickly at the right time, in the right direction, and then smack the other guy when they're the one off balance when they didn't expect you to move out of the way like that."

Syx hands over the other two crates that he has to add to the two that Vertina is holding, "Well I'll let you take these. But I expect you to let me know as soon as the first batch is brewed so I can come on down to your tavern and get some." He pauses, "Some of the ale that is, you know what I meant."

Vertina laughs as she readjust for the additional crates. But it's not that far of a march back into Tolbana, she'll be fine. This is like another workout routine for her. "We'll save the other getting some for the training."
