Goldenblade's Training

Goldenblade has been training all day, and it's already into evening. The weather is cold, it's February, but she's hot enough to be sweating in the practice yard at her Academy though it's cold enough to see her breath coming in heavy huffs. Half a dozen Landers have been hired to beat on her with practice swords, and she's parrying and blocking them the best she can, which may seem unusual considering her legendary agility, but the blocking is what she's practicing. The practice weapons she's using are worn badly, and the ones in use by the others are only a little better, it can't be long before one or another will break. So, Goldenblade contacted a local weaponsmith she knew, to see if there were any extra practice weapons she could buy.

Miho is finding things chilly as a Salamander the cold does bug her a lot more than it used tot. Still there were deliveries and heck if Golden wanted her to help with some of the classes she'd be open to it. She also had a delivery of practice weapons for the school as well. Her tail is swishing as she goes calling out.

"Goldenblade you said you needed training weapons?"

Goldenblade hrms as Miho speaks up, and raises a hand to call a temporary halt to the training. The Landers, big, burly types that hit like trucks, sigh heavily and wince, she's been demanding a lot from them. Goldenblade turns to Miho with a smile, and says, "I'm so glad you could make it! Yes, these," she gestures with a practice sword that is clearly on its last legs, "have about had it. I've been training hard, and I went through all my raw materials days ago." People forget she's a weaponsmith also. "I'm expecting another shipment in, but it's days late already, and I don't know what's holding it up. But I can keep training for a while with these, thank you!"

Miho grins "How could I say now and I have been wondering can we get in somewhere warm? I'm about to start breathing fire to keep warm. Or if you need some help with the training that could be a good way to warm up as well. So I only had two dozen on hand so here they are I also have a few spears as well." She grins and thinks for another moment. "Well I'm glad to be of use there! So how is the school going?"

Goldenblade hrms at Miho being cold. So, brathing fire is one possibility, but she channels, and the bonfires that surround the practice yard surge hard for a moment, raising the ambient temperature noticably. But wood is cheap and doesn't need to be crafted, just chopped. Goldenblade is sweating and doesn't feel the cold, clearly, and she says to Miho, "Well, if you'd like to spar a bit, grab a practice weapon and let's warm up?" The men take their cue to step back out of the way, they're more than happy to take a break. Goldenblade throws her own practice swords, nearly broken from the constant practice, onto the nearest fire, and will select two from the ones Miho has just brought, swinging them thoughtfully to get a feel for the weight and balance of them. "In your own time," she says, "come at me?"

Miho seems to relax a bit as things heat up. "Got to get used to the cold bothering me like this and thanks. Sure..."

She'll take one of the training weapons.

"Oh did I mention I finally turned that massive scale boss drop into some armor?" She notes as she starts to warm up a bit with her own training weapon.

Goldenblade smiles as Miho starts getting warmed up, and she ohs about the scale boss drop. "Oh? That's cool!" she says. "I've done much the same, with my fighting swords," obviously the practice swords are not. She does some bouncing in place to keep herself warmed up, though she's doing all right for the moment. "When you like," she says, "take a swing at me. I'm just practicing defense now, so I won't hit back. I'm not very strong on blocking, but I have a couple moves," she explains.

Miho ios warming up and she does take a swing at Golden it's clear Miho is not holding back. Though it's also clear the cold is still messing with her clearly. She's still warming up and she notes. "Well here I come again!" She'll make for another swift strike...

Goldenblade smiles as Miho warms up, but when she takes a swing, she's almost not ready for it! Too much waiting, not enough ready. She barely deflects it with one of her practice swords, and the two wooden blades meet with a clump. "That's it," she calls encouragingly. "Come at me again!"

Miho says "I know how to use what i make but it seems you are keeping up with things pretty well. We make quite the pair blue and red oni as it were." She'll again attempt to get in under Goldenblade's guard.

Goldenblade is keeping up at first, though she can feel Miho taking it a little easy on her. She parries the first couple shots, but then Miho manages to slip one in, and the practice sword clouts Goldenblade soldily. She barely reacts to the hit, though she says, "Good one! I need to work on my speed," she goes on, then says quietly, "I pay the Landers a gold coin for every time they hit me. That gives them some motivation!"

Miho says "That is very good motivation to a student I have to admit. Do you need more teachers or guest lectures I have been wondering?" She'll keep up her assault but it's clear she's not using sword arts just yet.

Goldenblade chuckles, and says, "Oh, they're not students. They're my teachers. Or helpers, anyhow. I'm the student for now." She blocks Miho's half-assault easily, explaining, "I don't really have any students right now. We just re-opened, officially, but I never had any before, so it's kind of 'eh'. But if you have something you'd like to teach, I'd be glad to have you."

Miho says "I could do weapon smithing and general crafting. What I'd want to teach is things that help for more than just war, my family's bneen hammering iron for over five hundred years!" She makes another strike. "Civilization is built on the anvil after all!"

Goldenblade gets her block up just in time again as Miho tests her defenses, chuckling as Miho waxes poetic about the crafting. "Well," she says, brushing a stray lock from her eyes, "I generlly do my own weaponsmithing. I'll admit you're better than I am, but I'm generally good enough, and I won't get better by buying someone else's product." She considers, but says, "I doubt Landers care much about the history of weaponsmithing in /our/ world."

Miho says "Thats the sort of pride in your crafting you need to get better. Oh I know but I want to share the furits of that with those who wish to lean. Hey if i can help them make better tools and the like right? Makes life better for them and they hopefull will in time improve upon it." She'll make another attack but it's clear she's enjoying the banter as much as the sword play.

Goldenblade huhs about pride in crafting, not sure just exactly what that means. "Is that a special thing I need?" she wonders, putting up her taunting block against Miho's attack. If Miho attacks someone else, now, there will be a smacking. "I do things right because that's the right thing to do. I don't need any mumbo jumbo self-worth nonsense." She's way too old to be part of the 'talking yourself up' wave of philosophy that came out in the mid 70's. "That's just hippies telling themselves that their half-baked junk is good enough. You /know/ if your stuff is good. You don't need to have a special chunk of pride for it."

Miho says "Those at the people who make shit kitchen knives that don't even last five years! Those hbbies have a lot to learn and I take pride in how long my family has passed the skills on, what we have surived."

Goldenblade ehs, smirks at the mention people who make junk products. "That's most of the world," she complains, panicking to put up her best block as Miho raises the stakes, and she comes up short, taking another smack, this time on her shoulder. "Ah, good hit. You're coming at me harder now, I see." As to pride in family, that's a Japanese thing she doesn't feel so strongly as an American. "Your family may have done good things, but take pride in what you've done on your own. That's the real score of personal worth."

Miho will lower her blade and grins a bit. "I guess that's where we differ a bit still I have and you have not seen nothing yet. I got a new project in mind for myself though howe about after that we get something to eat? I got a few stories to share if you like! maybe even we could find some thing to play too!"

Goldenblade arches a brow, and asks curiously, "A new project? Now I will admit to curiosity," she says, all ears. Of course she has a project on the drawing board as well that will shock Yamato. Literally. She's running into trouble getting it started, but when it does, it will be significant. "I've got a few things on the to-do list, myself," she admits.
