Is it Wrong to Breed Kaiju in a Castle?

Baroness Wake
Castle Eas

It is a relatively quiet day in Eas. The farmers are farming, the children are playing, everyone is doing their thing. They go about their lives with a sense of optimism. The shadow of emminent destruction has been lifted for a while now.

In short, god's in his heaven, all's right with the world.

Yet the Baroness is working away in her garden, sorting through boring paperwork and reading reports. She keeps her eye on what the lower level Olympians are up to and also addresses lander concerns most of the day. Well, when she isn't cornering her wife in a remote corner and kissing her very thoroughly.

Uta
Castle Eas

As for Uta -- she is... Uta'ing? That is, doing things an Uta is wont to do. Like wandering around without an apparent destination, stopping wherever, and suddenly exclaiming, "I should get myself a Yurt."

That, of course, would be followed by pacing in circles. "We -did- unlock Mongolia. And it would be a good way to set up camp with a bit more comfort when I stop somewhere. It could be a clinic. It could be a dojo. It could be a circus tent!", she mutters to herself, until she notices that the Baroness is nearby. "Oh, hello, Lady Bombast!", she finally greets with a smile.

Elly realizes she has already started setting down a note. 'Uta - one yurt.' She imagines that won't be too much work. She also realizes, as Uta calls out, that it is time to take a break from paperwork.

"Oh, hello, Uta!" she rises from her seat with a happy spring in her step. And then, yes, Uta is getting a hug. Elly is making the hugs a little bit warmer each time they meet. You know, boiling the frog and all that. Before long, there will even be cheek kissing!

"How have you been? Oh. And why a yurt?"

Uta warms up slightly at each meeting, but the posts are being moved. Frog boiling proceeds according to plan, to the point that if Wake was wearing glasses, they'd likely be glinting now.

"Well, you know how I lead a nomadic lifestyle, right? Journeying all over Yamato, living in a traveller's wagon and all that?", Uta begins. "It served me well until now, but my undertakings are getting more and more complex each passing day. Sometimes I need to 'set up a bigger camp', so to speak, and it would be nice if I could have a medical lab, or, say, small clinic, or..."

Silence.

"...you know, a little more room for activities."

There is some silence. "Oh, oh, I've been well, thank you. How have -you- been?"

So Elly, being a priestess of a fertility goddess, misread the idea of needing room for activities. "As long as you are happy, dear, I will be happy to support you. And of course we can get you a yurt. I mean, I already made a note. That does not sound too difficult to manage, honestly. We can get it all setup in Eas. A bit of tailoring, some woodworking, metal to make it a touch more sturdy.."

The baroness, priestess, wife of a great cook just laughs softly at the question of how she is doing. "I live in a castle with a wonderful woman who makes me great food. And occasionally she makes me nervous by running off on her own adventures. But that's marriage in this world, right? I am, simply put, living my best life, dear."

"Thank you, Lady Bombast! I knew you would understand!", Uta says, breaking into a wide smile. "Granted, I cannot hope, nor I am even remotely attempting, to match you in these matters," where Uta means, of course, having such lavish quarters as Castle Eas. "But I thought to myself, hey, I think it's time to start living a little, you know?"

And then Uta changes the subject, possibly leaving Wake with the completely wrong impression on the matter.

"Tae is running off on adventures?", Uta asks, confused, scratching her head. "So... you have decided to stop going on adventures, but Tae still does? Isn't that a bit... asymmetrical?"

Uta thinks for a moment longer, scratching her chin and looking into the distance. "...which reminds me, there still is that matter of Essie the Kaiju Slime..."

Elly smiles at the first part. Of course she understands! Then there comes the next part, which gets quizzical look. Just what is Tae telling everyone about her?!

"Well, you know, I am glad you are putting yourself out there and having a wonderful time." Seriously, though, she has to talk to Tae. Is she gossiping again?!

"Oh, and she is only doing some simple things, nothing too wild. She really misses exploring and well, I want her her own hobbies and enjoy herself. I do not expect her to sit around cooking for me all the time."

Elly hides just how thrown-off she is about the apparent suggestion that she is incredibly advanced in the.. well, the yurt, in this case. Part of her is honestly rather proud, though. But what -did- Tae say to Uta about it?

"Essie, yes, the kaiju slime." A few blinks. "Wait, were we seriously going to make a giant monster in the lake?"

Elly wonders, then, if she was drinking lately. She checks her memory for blanks spots and detects none. But.. would she know if she, herself, got blackout drunk and hired Uta to make Slimezilla in the lake? Oh dear. Or did she -already- make it?!

"Thank you, Lady Bombast!", Uta smiles, blushing a little. "I'm a bit new to all this," owning homes, that is. "Both outside ETO and within. But I am sure I'll get the hang of it, eventually."

"You, on the other hand... I've heard stories about your accomplishments all over the Village of Eas, and even further!" Uta beams, and spreads her arms. It's no secret of what Wake did to house all the refugees of Eas, or how she managed to reclaim Castle Eas from the monsters! "Truly, you are a Legend!"

Uta bursts into laughter at the question about whether Uta is seriously going to make a giant monster in the lake. "Afte r... er... 'the speech', where I kind of got carried away by my enthusiasm..." She grins and scratches the back of her head, looking away. "...I thought about it a little longer. I am not sure Essie will ever be a thing. The logistics are staggering. I am not sure we could handle it at all, without powerful enchantments. I am not even sure we could -grow- a slime of that size. And think of the potential damages if something goes pear-shaped..."

Uta shakes her head and sighs, with her trademark smile.

"...But that said, I might probably still try to get there by incremental steps. Just to -see- if it can be done at all."

And to pet it, probably. But she doesn't say.

They could not possibly be.. could they? The old adage comes to mind, 'Girls talk'. But this was never a problem before! Or maybe she just was not aware that everyone was discussin her prowess.

"I... see," she replies faintly. "I had no idea I was being discussed in that manner. But, well, I hope you can understand if I am not quite used to discussing that kind of matter so casually."

Oh, but then there is the other, less troubling topic. In what kind of conversation is the less troubling topic the creation of a giant, potentially world-threatening slime. Granted, it would be a a completely adorable threat to the safety of the world, but still.

"You know, I did have something else I was considering. A kind of midway point. A proof of concept. Did I ever mention my idea for a slime garden to you before?"

Uta

"A good point to start, a good point to start from indeed," Uta points out with a nod. "The project has been delayed for too long, and is definitely a far better starting point. We should meet to define its specifications at your convenienc- are you doing anything important right now?", she asks, as she leans over and squints her eyes a bit. "Because I just so happen to have a hole in my schedule. Perhaps we could start work on that..."
