Duty Session 22: Spinner's End

The Landers in the Town of Beginnings seem to have a never ending string of trouble that comes their way. A few of the local Lander blacksmiths have complained that they are struggling to get the raw ore that they need. Apparently, the nearby mines have been overwhelmed with beasts and monsters, making it hard for the miners to continue their excavation efforts. It blips as an optional side-quest with a reward of improving the available resources in the Town of Beginnings.

(OOC Note: There are two possible duty-end rewards for this quest.)

Given the current goings ons, making sure Landers have everything they need to produce things at their smiths is sort of an imperative, isn't it? Jazz took the quest, along with a couple of others, and agreed to head out this way to see about the mines. Apparently, this has happened before and it'll happen again, but that just means it has to be done *over and over*. Ah, repetitive MMO life, right?

She tips her witch's hat and proceeds to head inside the mine, accompanied by a pair of other advnturers who agreed approximately the same time she did. The impromptu adventuring party is confronted, promptly, by a huge, wrinkly creature right up front. It's kind of gross, but at least it's NOT a spider.

JAzz flails her arms around wildly for a moment, kind of squicked by it, before she reaches into her stachel for her dagger and instead pulls out a ridiculous looking ....feather...duster?

IT's black and purple, and has a tiny pink skull at its base.

She looks down at it, slowly,

"... oh come *on*, Benji, " she says.

"If this continues, I might start to think you're spying on me." Misa's words to Shiroe as they find themselves on yet another early morning quest. She's probably kidding though. Probably.

Misa is once more venturing out to perform another quest for another Lander. Doesn't she have a big push to plan into the tower? You understimate her. She finished planning that hours ago. Now she's just trying to get over the line for her next level, as it could mean the difference between life and respawning.

As the group comes to the mines and immediately encounters a creature of not-spidery description, it's clearly time to equip themselves. With a few quick finger swipes, Misa's scythe appears beside her. She spins it around into an attack position.

Misa then side glances at Jazz and her own weapon of choice asks, "What's that...?"
Shiroe

"Hmmph, and here I was getting worried Krusty was having you follow me." The bespectacled Enchanter gives a brief smirk to Misa as they continue along. Of course he was teasing along as well, it made sense that they'd end up meeting more here and there if both of them were trying to keep track of newly discovered quests and the like. Though while he may have been familiar with Misa, some he was less so, but that was nothing new to him from back in his pick-up raid days. It was part of the game to learn to work with new people you were unfamiliar, this just happened to be one of those times. So the cloaked figure follows along with the rest of the party, "Mmmm, if I recall I'm pretty sure this is also one of the new events from the expansion? Seems like they had really gone all out to provide the game with new content. It'd be nice if it weren't so..." Inconvenient.

Old quests might have been boring but at least you knew the information before hand. While the new content was great it definitely did pose a bit more risk for players, especially if they were the first to do it. Though even with that in mind...The villain in glasses can be seen with a mild smile on his face. The gamer in him still being able to find some semblance of intrigue. As they start to explore the sorting room there's definitely the feeling that everything's been deserted for quite some time. "The webs around here put the cobwebs from the last one to shame..."

Just as he starts investigating the webs something else catches the groups attention, the flesh looking creature definitely makes Shiroe bring up his staff defensively, though Jazs's feather duster also ends up getting a look. Though rather than question it, he's already focusing on how they should approach the enemy. "Misa, you're fine taking point for this?" Whether she is or not he's already getting prepped to cast a spell just to be safe.

"...shoo! Go on, get out of here!"

Jazz gestures at the horribly wrinkly creature with the feather duster because, honestly, it was there and she was already holding it and it was too late. It's super ineffective.

It just starts to advance on her.

"Well, *that* didn't work," she mutters.
L'Anya
Overworld - 2 - 0 - 0

It was only natural that beasts of various stripes and flavors would start to move in areas humanity had left behind, right? The cobwebs tell the tale all too well -- beware those who enter, for although the mine might be without workers for the time being, it was not truly vacant. The giant thing of flesh chewing on the human-shaped bones is an even more prominent indicator of the danger of this place... and yet even though the group of three had picked up the quest shortly after it had fired, there was yet another Adventurer who had been so enhusiastic she had managed to get here first.

Rather, more accurately... L'Anya hadn't heard of any quest and hadn't accepted it, she'd simply been exploring the surrounding areas and had found what looked to be a good spot for gathering resources. She'd managed to get *inside* without much fanfare, but it became increasingly more obvious that this was not a good place to be... something she found out only *after* she tried to leave and found something very, very intimidating blocking her path. Although the beast blocks the three quest-takers' paths in, it blocks her only way out, which is why there's a white-furred rat Were Fang cuddled up against the rock over in the corner, barely visible amidst the gloom, her red eyes focused entirely on the creature -- only to startle slightly when she hears a few voices, two of which are familiar.

Misa mmms in agreement with Shiroe, both to his note about this being new content as well as the webs being just a tad bigger than the ones in the shop cellar.

Though when Shiroe asks if she's up for taking point in this, Misa actually lets out a dry chuckle, "Yes, that makes sense. Send the support DPS in first." Though as Jazz proceeds to try and shoo the creature away with a feather duster, "..."

"Very well." Misa hasn't noticed L'Anya yet as she starts to walk forward. She's still quite some distance away from the creature even though she starts to bring her scythe up over her head. With deft hand movements she begins to spin the scythe, the blade beginning to glow with light.

With her final step, Misa pirouettes, bringing her scythe down and around in a spinning slash along with her. The light jumps off the weapon, slicing through the air as a crescent, heading dead on towards the creature.
Shiroe

Shiroe can be heard furrowing his brow as she jokes. He's trying to laugh along with it but well...He has to admit to himself it does sound a bit weird to ask of Misa. "Well, if you'd like I can always try to play my hand as the tank, I'm sure I've watched Naotsugu enough for that." It's a quick quip, but that's also ends up short lived as he finds the feather duster being used in a rather...'Unique' way?

Since shoo'ing away doesn't appear to work, going on the offensive was the next choice on the list. As Misa starts her her walk towards the beats, Shiroe's already starting his spell. A small group of flaming projectiles are launched at the creature getting the first blow in. It's probably not the most damaging spell, but it provides enough of a burning effect to keep the creature distracted for Misa's blade to deal with it thoroughly enough.
L'Anya

Even with the familiar voices lingering in the area, L'Anya didn't dare hope. It was clear it had come from the other side of the beast, after all, and... well, that presented a problem. Besides... from the way it began to step forward, it clearly wasn't initially intimidated by the entourage; was there any guarantee she'd be able to escape even with their help? She flinches even closer towards the wall when the attacks start flying, but when it becomes a bit more apparent they were attacks aimed towards the beast -- and seemed to be doing their job -- she draws herself up off of her hands and knees to look forward with more hope. Maybe....

With adrenaline rushing through her, there's not much L'Anya can think of to turn the tide despite her advantageous position, but the sheer possibility of managing to get out of this cave once and for all pushes her forward all the same. She doesn't dare approach and isn't sure how to help, so... blindly, she picks up a piece of stone and tosses it at the beast's back, hoping to inflict some damage -- or, more likely, spook it enough at the threat of another to cause it to open itself up to other attacks or run away altogether.

The beast is struck, by flame, by magic beam from a scythe, and by... a rock. It's enough to end the threat it represents and it topples over with a mounrful wail of pain, the death throes of many an MMO monster overtaking it.

"... I was trying to grab my knife," mumbles Jazz, feeling a bit flustered by her own failure to be terribly useful there. She lowers the feather duster to her side and casually, absently, pushes past the now dissolving corpse of the creature, a glimpse of L'anya making her double take. "Oh, hey! It's you!" She gestures at her nebulously, "... lady whose name I didn't get at the forge. Hi again." Her voice, already someone's idea of an entirely cutesy and adorable anime voice actress to begin with, raises in a pitch. "What are you even doing all the way out here? Are you okay? You should stick close to us unless you wanna get out of here." She peers forward, but allows Misa to take point, leading them down into the mines proper where they encounter a rock slide blocking further access, made worse by the omnipresence of large, thickly banded spider's webbing.

"... I think I can manipulate the ground water content to clear the rocks for us... maybe. I'll give it a shot."

The creature goes down, Misa calmly walking through it as it vanishes, leaving behind its measly offering of coins. Well, measly from what Misa is used to from before the Apocalypse. Now days it's all they have...

Misa then stops and blinks a little in surprise, "L'Anya?" She looks at the rat Were, not having expected to see her here. But then she realizes why she probably is, "Oh... You're here for mats?" Misa hopes she wasn't trapped here for long. And certainly not for her sake.

Jazz suggests that L'Anya comes with the group. Misa nods in agreement, "Resource based dungeons like this sometimes have rare gathering nodes towards the end. It might be worth your time to come with us."

The group comes to a blocked passage. Misa hmmms, "There's no other paths available... Which means we need to clear this." Jazz suggests she can clear the rocks with water. It might work, but... "The webs might be a problem."

Misa learned her lesson last time. She doesn't swing her scythe this time, instead thrusting and pulling the blade towards the webs, cutting them to free up the rocks for Jazz to shift.
Shiroe
Overworld - 2 - 0 - 0

Fire bolts and scythes, those were the two attacks that had been thrown by the party to handle the creature. So...Why was a rock thrown all of a sudden? Regardless, it seemed as though the monster had been taking down without too much issue giving the group leeway to continue on but not before figuring out where that stone had come from. Though Jazz seems to be the one who catches the first glimpse of the source as she points in L'Anya's direction.

"Another player?" Shiroe steps forward towards the were fang. The pooka enchanter in glasses examining her for a good few moments as Jazz gives the brief check-up. Though it seems even Misa was familiar with the person in question. He looks her way as he gives a brief nod, "Plus, it'll just be safer in general. In these kinds of dungeons if you end up in the wrong place at the wrong time you could get mobbed by a random group of monsters that respawned out of nowhere." He'll leave it to Misa and Jazz to work with L'Anya considering they were more familiar with her as they start going down the blocked path.

Seeing Misa start to cut at the webs he looks over to Jazz, "I can definitely help with the rock removal as well. Should make it a bit easier to clear a passage and preserve MP for what's up ahead." With that said he'd bring up his staff again as he'd use earth magic to start helping with the excavating and mining of the path to break up the rocks that were impeding their way.

L'Anya, for her part, is still shaking slightly from the adrenaline rush by the time the other three Adventurers catch sight of her, and the sudden call towards her from Jazz causes her to momentarily start. She blinks a few times, eyes moving to each of the three in turn with disbelief and awe, before she lets out a deep, heavy sigh. "Y-yes. At, at the forge," she stammers slightly towards Jazz with a shaky nod. "I... I was..." The bundle of nerves trails off at the end, but when Misa wonders if she was here for materials, the rat gives an embarrassed nod in response. That was precisely the reason why she'd come here... despite the warning signs thick enough to warrant Adventurers teaming up to take the cave on.

The mention of actually escaping out of this place causes L'Anya to brighten with relief; rare materials there might be, but she'd had enough of this danger and was perfectly content just poking around in the fields from now on. It's Shiroe's words that dump a pail of cold water on her spirits, however, and although she initially stands in place while the trio head forward -- seeming uncertain which she'd do -- she scampers to catch up, hanging close enough to be 'in the party' but far enough away to not get tangled up if something happened -- two and a half peoples' spans, thereabouts.

It is with something of a relieved sigh that L'Anya takes in the caved-in tunnel. Clearly a dead end, time to go home! ... she assumes, for not even a full minute before suggestions and attempts are being made to dislodge the roadblocks. She stands awkwardly to the side at first while the other three go to work, but soon steps forward, her nerves not nearly as frayed in the absence of any real danger and her voice considerably more stable, if still somewhat soft. "I'll help make it less stable and compact so you can move it, then," she half-offers, half-states before she steps forward, glancing at the rocks with a momentary pause before she starts physically shifting the rocks here and there -- not enough to move them, just enough to shift their balance to make it easier for Shiroe and Jazz to do their work.

Jazz makes a point of keeping an eye on L'anya. Neither of them are all that experience,d that much is clear, and thusly it's important that they stick together. She doesn't crowd on her personal space, but shje does keep an eye on her.

She raises her hands at the rocks that have been weakened, loosened and cleared, and focuses her own energy. The tip of the feather duster seems to start glowing as she does, to say nothing of the way the spots and markings on her body start to glow. Bioluminesence is apparently a feature of the Undine when they're chanelling magic, or perhaps it's just her.

Either way, her hair wafting like it's in the water, the ground seems to tremble a moment before the stones simply fall away and the path is clear, leaving damp earth for them to walk on forward. Jazz looks at the feather duster, and it's glowing, and says, "Oooooh. It's *wand type*. Funny."

ANd so forward they go.

.... where upon they come to a gap in the earth not terribly long after.

Jazz can be heard to sigh heavily.

Misa tries to comfort L'Anya a little, "Don't worry. We'll be fine." Famous last words.

The group comes to a large chasm they need to cross. Misa looks to the other side, judging the distance... She should be able to make it. She glances back at the others, "You might want to cover your ears."

Misa takes a step back. In an instant she's gone and there's a thunderous boom and gust of wind. Immediately after...

    SCRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTCK...

    That doesn't sound good.

Indeed, Misa is not standing on the platform on the other edge of the chasm. Instead, she is hanging over the side, her scythe stretched out above her, the tip of the blade just digging into the platform's edge. She tries to pull herself up, "Nnnngh..." She looks to be having trouble though.

"Oh crap," says Jazz when she sees Misa's cuirrent situation. That doesn't look good.

There isn't much thought to it. She simply runs forward, applies the wind to her back and LEAPS.

She sails through the air, cleaning the gap while squealing. It manages to somehow sound adorable, even while she's terrified.

She stumbles on the other side, not quite abnle to believe she made it from the look on her face, before she's dropping to her knees and putting her hands out to Misa to try to grab onto her and start helping to haul her up.

Unfortunately, she's very small and not very strong. But, hey! Misa might get booped in the face by one of the tentacles that hangs from her head.
Shiroe
Overworld - 2 - 0 - 0

While Jazz is keeping an eye on L'anya, Shiroe's keeping an eye on both. He wouldn't say it for sure, but both of them didn't really seem like they were avid players to begin with. For one seeing Jazz's incorrect weapon reach, and the way L'Anya was throwing stones and moving boulders by hand was giving that impression. When push comes to shove though, the combined efforts of the group to help to make sure that they're all able to continue onwards. Seeing that L'Anya stays a way behind them, he decides to just keep his eyes more vigilant, and occasionally give them both a heads up whenever they hit a corner as to let them know there were no monsters nearby.

It's only up until they reach the chasm do they finally find something worth noting. Shiroe finds himself looking over the edge slightly to only see the pitch-darkness. He looks around the area a bit, "It'd probably be best if we could find some sort of path or...Ah, that might work." He makes note of the wood nearby thinking that the possibility of making some sort of bridge was definitely a viable path. Unfortunately things are never that easy...

"Misa!!!" Shiroe shouts into the abyss. It had all happened in the briefest of moments where she had decided to jump the platform. Truth be told he would have imagined that she'd make it as well, so it was beyond surprising when he sees her hanging by her scythe as if it were a climbing pick. Then it happens again, "Jazu, wait don't!" Panic shows on Shiroe's face as she takes the leap and as she does he's already stepping in front of L'Anya. One to keep her from attempting the same. The other to avoid her watching Jazu fall if she failed...

Thankfully that's not the case as he sees her make it to the other side. Though watching Jazz try to help Misa out he can tell she's having a rough time of it. "Tch...If she falls in too... Just stay put real quick." He turns back to L'Anya giving her his instructions before turning back to the chasm. He takes a heavy breath as he steps back a few steps to give himself a running start and then... "Aero!"

The Adventurer uses wind magic of his own to help his jump and finds himself making it to the other side. Rather than relish in his success though he's immediately holding at Jazz's back with one hand to keep her steady, while the other extends out his staff for Misa to hold onto if she needs the extra length to grab. He's not much stronger as an Enchanter, and he probably looks goofy as hell with his glasses looking like they're about to fall off his face but it's a risk he feels is sort of necessary right now. "Hurry!"
L'Anya

It really didn't need to be explicitly stated that L'Anya was something of a novice... in fact, she would be considered the novice of novices, not having taken more than a few first steps, if that. She does a good job of guarding the rear, though, all told, her eyes darting about as though some manner of beast might pop out any moment to snatch someone away... and, hell, maybe it would. Such wariness doesn't abate even after going quite a ways without danger finding the group... and then it comes to the chasm.

Her eyes glance down into the deep, gloomy space between, but rather than surprise or fear, her expression actually brightens a bit. There's a bit of a gleam in her eye as she looks over the area and glances at the wood, and she even shows a bit of a smile and excitement. "Oh, hey. I think I can--" And not even a few moments later, Misa is vrooming across the pit. L'Anya blinks once, twice, three times in surprise -- that Misa would even *attempt* such a thing, that she had nearly *succeeded*... and that she had failed -- only for her eyes to widen further when Jazz tosses herself out in much the same fashion.

Shiroe steps in front of her, but while Shiroe is concerned L'Anya might try to follow suit, the rat Were is concerned Shiroe would, instead -- a fear that is proven correct not even a moment after. 'Just stay put real quick,' he'd said before rushing off to do the exact same thing. It's with a sigh of relief that L'Anya takes note he made it to the other side alongside Jazz, and she raises her hand to bring up a menu. "Jeez..." she mumbles to herself as she looks through a few screens, scanning the contents carefully to find what she needed before nodding and snatching up some of the wood. "You people are insane...." She steps towards the edge of that crevice, her sharp toenails clacking against the stone before the earth begins to slowly form outward. The pace is tentative and uncertain at first -- her eyes gazing straight down at her progress -- before she begins to walk along the path with a bit more poise. "Who the hell jumps in a situation like this?"

Her pace is slow at first but begins to pick up, and she drops planks of wood down to the stone along the way, where it is subsequently incorporated to form a degree of extra support, forming a bridge out of wood and stone. With this, she can get over to the other side and help Misa up as well, if the other two hadn't already pulled her up by that point.

In fairness, it isn't like Jazz wanted to jump. In fact, the sweat beading her brow and the adrenaline surging is making her hands shake, which when she's holding onto Misa, is not terribly helpful. Neither are sweaty palms. Still, when she's joined by Shiroe, the two of them are able to solidify the situation and give L'anya enoug time to come over, where all three of them are finally able to haul her up onto the ledge.

"...at least we have a way back now, admits Jazz."

A little while later, after they've taken a little breather to recover from the shock of that particular situation, they've moved forward, passing into a chamber full of spiderwebs. She does not like this, Jazz, and she follows in the path no doubt cut by Misa, right up until hordes of spiders begin falling on them from above, crawling onto them from the webs,, getting into her hair, her clothes.

"OH ITS JUST AS BAD AS I THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE AUGH!" FLAIL! FLAAAIL!

Through a combined effort from Jazz, Shiroe and L'Anya, Misa is finally pulled up onto the platform proper. She flops down onto her back after getting pulled up. She brushes one of Jazz's tentacles out of her face before she starts to say, "I forgot..." Breathe. "The arte distance..." Breathe. "Is reduced..." Breathe. "At lower levels."

Tired from both using the Lightningstep arte and hanging off the edge of a huge drop, Misa takes a few more moments to recover before getting to her feet. She offers up, "Thank you..." She looks back at the large gap she just barely missed. She notices the constructed bridge, "Not bad."

The group continues forward, coming into a large chamber. It doesn't take long for Misa to notice the spiders, her boots crunching at the first few steps. Misa doesn't have a particular problem with spiders... But. More and more begin to climb on her, crawling over her skin, getting in her hair.

Misa finally cries out in frustration, channeling magic through her as she tries to zap the spiders away. But the there's too many and the charge fails to jump to them. This leaves Misa no choice.

She quickly dashes through the rest of the cavern, desperately trying to brush the spiders off.

As all three of them end up pulling Misa out, during the time they all take a breather the Villain in Glasses can't help but think, "Okay...I think I'd like to avoid anymore jumpscares today..." He'd slowly pick himself up now that everyone seemed to be on the other side of the chasm. "Good to see everyone's alright at least. Anyway...Let's keep going."

Personally he'd rather not think about the chasm too much if he doesn't have to. And as they enter this chamber..."We should have just stuck around back at the chasm..." Spiders, way too many spiders within the area are all over the place. Under their feet being crushed, across the walls. Atop the ceilings. It's enough that the Enchanter finds himself pulling up the hood of his cloak. THANK GOD FOR THAT.

Unfortunately even with something to cover his head, it looks as though the spiders start to take just as much discomfort in the explorers' arrival as the explorers are of the spiders. "Heads up, they're getting aggressive!"

L'Anya looks over the three other Adventurers, and although she isn't exactly *enthused*, she's at least slightly more comfortable where she is. She follows the other three without further complaint or mention of what had just happened, but she does stop every now and again to glance back from where they'd come, her eyes falling upon the ledge, the crevice, and the bridge that had provided her safe passage. Her constant pauses cause her to fall behind every now and again, but she's quick to scamper closer whenever she realizes it, turning into the party's more intermittent shadow rather than the constant one from before.

L'Anya... actually doesn't mind the swarm of small spiders over much, although she happens to have a coat of white fur to offer a degree of protection from any attacks the smaller creatures might attempt, as well as protection from the prick of their legs. She brushes off any that stray near her face and her tail does likewise beneath her robe, the rat Were following along with the rest without a word of complaint.

So, Jazz is not happy. She gets an idea, at least, and she raises her feather duster up into the air. Charging the air around her with electricity makes her hair stand up on end, but hey, that feather duster seems to be a miniature bug zapper, now, with arcs and flashes of lightning bouncing from its tip to the spiders. Pop! Pop! Pop!

...okay, this is getting messy and /may/ not have been best idea for anyone's clothes, but IS making short work of the spider wave! But... it's... really gross on the whole.

With a shake of her now-she-knows-its-a-wand, many of the arachnid remaisn fall away. Air-cleaning, but there's still... remnants on her clothing.

"augh, augh, gross, augh, this is horrible, augh."

She is not a fan.

As they finally make it out of the other end of the spider-wave, they've found themselves in a large chamber where there is, indeed, a massive spider. A massive spider that spits acid, if the sizzling, smoking ground where it's drool touches is any indication.

"Ohyou'vegottabeshittingme," remarks Jazz, raising her wand up in front of her face. It's tip bursts into sparkling pink mists. She stares at it.

There is a heavy, heavy sigh.

    "Shock!"

As the spiders continue trying to swarm the Adventurers, Shiroe's staff is raised out and from it's tip, electrical discharges are let out. Usually the spell would have been pretty meager against more regular opponents, but as a spider zapper spell it proves to be more than versatile enough to help the group. Sadly...It seems Jazz had the same idea and because of it...The splash zone only intensifies. With the spiders' numbers dwindling a pathway opens up through the webs that catches Shiroe's eye. "Over here!"

He doesn't really know what to expect, but as long as it wasn't more tiny spiders he thinks he'd be able to manage. As they enter into the room he realizes something. Something that makes him push up his glasses in realization, "Ah...So this is the boss room..." This might have been a mistake. One look at these larger spiders give off a rather unpleasant feeling as venom oozes from their pincers. Before they really have a chance to process everything he can already see that their shooting acid their way only to end up hitting the floor but in doing so, making quick work of the stone...

"Tch...Everyone get ready! "Energy Coat!" With those words, Shiroe intended to try and place a defensive buff on the group. It probably isn't the best defensive buff since he's a support attack mage but damn it, he's trying!!!

Misa is FINALLY through that cavern, which means that her spider population is not longer increasing, but decreasing as she brushes them off. There's a quiet sigh of relief as she gets the final one. She's starting to regret leaving the safety of the camp and her stacks of forms.

A bit of exploded spider lands on her clothes, before vanishing in the usual method of defeated mobs. Misa stares at Jazz for a few moments, before brushing off that spot just in case there was anything left behind.

L'Anya's more comfortable walk through the spider cavern wasn't unnoticed, Misa saying, "I'm a little jealous." She still looks a little uncomfortable, thinking about the feeling of all those spiders crawling over her.

Finally they come to the obvious boss room, Misa slowly moving her scythe in preparation. Given she is likely taking point in this, Misa charges first. She dashes off to the side at an angle. With a leap and twist of her foot, Misa soars into the air, slowly twirling. As she does so, her entire weapon begins to glow. She releases her grip on the scythe, but it remains by her hand, quickly beginning to spin up until it's just a blur of light.

At the peak of her leap, Misa swings her arm around. The spinning scythe flies away from her hand, curving through the air down towards the spider before ripping through it and coming out the other side and heading back towards Misa.

Misa lands in a crouching position, hand raising up behind her as she catches the returning scythe. She stands up, ready just in case the others aren't able to finish it off and it comes after her for the aggro pull.

Despite the unnerving scene, and despite L'Anya's rather clear inexperience and trepidation towards monsters... the tiny spiders do not qualify. She doesn't say a word to the others as they brush, zap, and otherwise do whatever they can to get rid of the swarm, and she increases her distance from the group just a bit in order to avoid getting splattered in the process, even going so far as to raise her hood over her head to avoid getting anything in her eyes. This, at least... this wasn't so bad. The initial confrontation with the pink beast near the entrance of the mine had been... tumultuous, and she'd seen some frightening shadows before the other three Adventurers had arrived, but the trek through the collapsed tunnel, past the crevice, and now through this spider room had been quite reasonable. Not something she'd want to repeat, per se... but she manages to spare some energy and focus to watch the others with mild amusement.

The giant spider waiting for them, on the other hand? *That* was not something she could just brush aside. She freezes up almost the moment she enters into that 'boss room', the rat Were going utterly stiff while her eyes fall upon the many others gazing back at the group. There's shouting and yelling and brandishing of weapons that just deepens the shock, and it's not until Misa lands in her crouching position again that L'Anya comes back to herself. There's a bit of panic and fluster here before she makes a move of her own, casting a Wave Arte -- Rock Cradle -- to help provide some protection from the acid for the group alongside Shiroe's Energy Coat.

ALongside L'anya and Shiroe, Jazz's own efforts are pretty much dedicated to not getting hit by acid. The energy coat and rock cradle protect them from the flying acid, to say nothing of the smaller giant spiders that were laying in wait, lunging and snapping at them with vicious mandible strikes that are deflected by rock and nebulous, dark energy.

Jazz squeals, but she raises her hands to either side of her, her hair wafting as she gathers her own artes. "Darkest depths of the ocean, protect her," she sputters, like she can't really believe she's actually being required to say this line. Indeed, black waters leech from the ground and upwards, forming into a rippling, rotating shield that moves to protect Misa. Under the witch's direction, it slices through the air to protect them, first, and then Misa specifically from more immediate attack by the spider so that she can more easily land her fatal blow, though it hardly seems like it was a necessary move with her felling the giant spider monster in such a gruesomely final manner.

...and then the spider starts to dissolve the other spiders slinking back into the shadows.

"Oi," says Jazz.

"...let's not do this again."

Of course, this being an MMO, they totally will.
