Longitude needs some Latitude

Having made the long walk to the Marina a few days before, Jazz has resolved to remain here by the sea. Perhaps it's the undine in her, or more likely, this is where the hub of action is for a lot of people. She's staring at one of the storefronts offering low level clothing. She does need to get her maid uniform replaced with something more practical aside from her long, mostly concealing coat.

    After some adventuring with a bandit camp, Giganpor had decided to retire to the Marina. He was interested in perhaps exploring other lands eventually, but they needed to find a way to there. That had lead the tall Were Fang to wandering the Marina as he considered the best way to get across to other lands. To explore them. Perhaps even to find new means. But lately a mystery has been bugging him. Nevarri said someone named 'Jazz' had made a compass. That has the red head confused a bit, as he didn't know of any 'Jazz' out there so far. But that was a ton of names from the Day of the Apocalypse to go through.

    Then he spots someone slightly familiar. Shielding his eyes a bit, he heads over towards the store fronts, "Hello... Jazuhanzu, right?"

"Jazz, please," says Jazuhanzu with a cringe at the actual character name.

It's clear she is not fond of it. That answers *that* question about who Nevarri meant, of course, more than anything else immediately.

    And that earns a face palm from Giganpor. "Of course... hey, did you make a compass somehow?" He asks after a moment of realizing how stupid he is.

    Giganpor looks slightly annoyed that it was so simple, both in who and if the method's true perhaps.

"What? Where'd you hear that?" asks Jazz, curiously. Her head tilts, tentacles tilting with he.r Their ends are raised towards Giganpor curiously. "I mean, I did, but it's only the most basic kind of compass that you can make. A pointy needle through a cork and laid in a bowl of water," she explains.

    Giganpor shrugs, "Someone named Nevarri. We were running through a bandit camp and stopped at a bar in the camp."

    The tall Were Fang looks perhaps a bit interested. "He said it points west, though, instead of north... do you happen to have it with you? I'm curious if it perhaps it might be a start on something far as the crafting problems."

"She told you right. It does point west, which is weird but intresting. Actually, I was looking for you anyway. You seemed to know about the whole crafty business and I'm wondering if there might be an astrolabe in game somewhere." She puts her haend to the brimg of her hat, holding it to her head. "What about it, though?"

    Giganpor scratches his head, looking considerate, "Well... technically... I don't know how... but... I'm not sure if it should have worked. Have you tried to do it again?"

    He shrugs, "From what I remember, you had to use the system to make things before the Apocalypse, and an astrolabe? Hm.... I'm not familiar with what those are..."

"I mean, I had to use my lightning abilities ot magnetize it. Maybe that triggered a game mechanic in the first place. I /am/ an enchanter. I don't know," says Jazz, shrugging her shoulders. "But, I mean, in reality all I did was push a needle through a cork after magnetizing it. I was trying to prove that the game wouldn't simulate magnetism but it... did. Soooo..." She makes a face that, scrunching up cutely.

"They're tools that were used in antiquity by ancient peoples to help measure things like longitude and latitude and the positions of stars and so on. I was hoping one mgiht exist in the crafting system."

    Giganpor looks interested in the explaination. "Hm... I can probably poke around. I don't normally do the smaller tools, and I'm not even sure what it would be under. I'll ask in my Guild as well to see if anyone of Grandeur knows about one. The thing's a puzzlement to me."

    He looks considerate, turning to lean against the wall of the store front as he rubs his chin. "A little magic, and just pushing a needle through a cork..." His face scrunches up. "I wonder..." He pulls up a menu and starts to go through his inventory it seems. "... it can't be that simple... but what to test it on? I don't want to be out of the field too long in case something big happens..."

Jazz fumbles around in her coat pocket and produces the cork with the needle through it. She holds it in her palm. "I thought maybe I might've done something wrong when it kept pointing west, but... maybe I didn't? Maybe the pole really *is* west, or at least there's something exerting some kind of magnetic pull to the west and yet we still havqe a north star *and* all the rest of earth's stars above us. I want to compare the charts they gave the Landers with ones I can make with the proper equipment, see if the black wave changed the mat all." She looks up towards the sky.

    Giganpor nods, "I can see that it could be a problem if all the compasses we can get are pointing that way. Then again, if something is making that sort of influence..."

    Giganpor shakes his head, "Too many questions at one time for me. Have you told the rest of your Guild about the request for an astrolabe? I can see, like I said, but others might have a better idea, too. Or be able to create one."

"...not really, the SIlver Swords are all pretty busy and I don't wnt to be a burden. I can nose around, though, maybe someone will know something." She shakes her head, putting the cork back in her pocket.

"I did tell Nevarri about the compass, obviously, which is how you heard about it." She glances up towards the sky for a moment. "Well, we can get lodestones or something from vendors, which point north, it's just *my* compass that points west -- but maybe the lodestones point north because things were 'supposed' to point north because that's the way the minimap pointed."

    The Were Fang looks over. "Or... there is something going on to the west."

    Giganpor looks considerate, then sighs, "I guess that is a plan, then... we'll have to get more than just us two if we want to look into it." He comments as he looks upwards. "I wonder how many we could get involved in this? It is about time we got off this one island, I suppose. Stretch out some."

"I mean, for all we know that could take us a lot further than Yamato, but we have no idea how big the world actually is. The rendering seems... really good, now, and I had to walk for hours and hours and hours to get here." Jazz makes a face, waving her hands up in the air on either side of her head. "It suuuuucked. I want my fast travels."

    Giganpor shakes his head, "Imagine how sad I am... I still have to go to other continents to hopefully catch the monster summons that I could ride before. The best I have right now are low level elementals." He chuckles. "So, what were you staring at the store front for?"

"Clothes. I need to get some new ones. This maid's outfit I spawned with is starting to irritate me more and more," says Jazz, looking down at her outfit. "PLus, I heard some assholes tried to kidnap someone dressed ilike that," she explains.

    Giganpor shrugs, "Probably a good idea. I probably need to upgrade or get out of this level wiped gear at some point. I just fear going through raids or boss fights to regain what I had." He sighs, "But yeah, probably a good idea to not go around dressed like a maid?"

"Spare clothes aren't really a bad thing, either," remarks Jazz, "but, yeah. I just need to get things figured out and also get some nice clothes." She glacnes down at her hands.

"Ah well. Anyway..."

    Giganpor shrugs, "Well, this is one of the better shops in the area that's not been swarmed, so I think you might have luck here... in any case, I should get going. I need to check on some things that your compass might have been a breakthrough. Or so I hope." He says, smiling.

    Standing up from the wall, he looks over, "Oh, do you need any items while I'm here far as equipment? Not the best, but I can at least give some help there if you need it or broke something since we last talked."

"...actually, I've been able to keep my gear fairly well maintained, what I have of it." She reaches up to take her hat off her head, turning it over in her heand to look at it. "So I'm okay, though I'ma need upgrades sometime soon. I think I'm getting close to, like... a level or something." She blinks down at her hat, her head tentacles wiggling by her pointed ears, her hair wafting around her a little like she's still in the water, even though she's clearly on land. "Mmn."

    Giganpor smiles, "Good to know. I think some of us are finally getting there, even us crafters. But just be careful. We don't want to get so far ahead we need to decide yet. I think I might try to get an expedition to go elsewhere going. Maybe. Hard to tell what the other Kingdoms are doing, after all. The most we have is the Ezzo Empire's kinda gone to hell."

    Giganpor shrugs, "Ah well, one thing at a time... I'll have to study a bit what the Landers do... maybe some of their animations will point me at hand crafting."

"... yeah, one thing at a time. Who knows? Maybe this will all be over sooner than some people think. I mean, we've got to keep ourselves occupied but who knows what the administrators are gonna do, right?" Jazz says it wearily enough before she goes to push into the store. "Nice seeing you again, eh? Be careful out there."

    Giganpor gives a small wave, "Later, Jazz." He turns to head off as well, looking considerate as he goes.
