Building the Guild Hall

Members of Crescent Moon pitch in to start building a guild hall.

Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade is eager to help out with the Guild House project, so much so that as soon as she hears what and where it is, she heads over immediately to help out. Not that she's got much else to do, of course, but helping out with construction is something she feels she'd be good at because it's what she did before coming here. Not so much with the woodworking, which is what she's been asked to help out with here, but she's good with any sort of construction project, and she's energetic and motivated. So, she'll wind up over with the lumber, sorting out 4x8's and 6x10's and all the other pieces, and she'll follow whoever has the plans for putting the frames together. She's got a hammer and nails and plenty of elbow grease.
Kauchemar

Plant Hwyaden does like to keep tabs on what the other Olympus guilds are doing so Kauchemar decided to take a look for herself what Crescent Moon's newest project was all about. Maybe pitch in some help if she can find a non-intrusive way of doing so. Especially if it means 1) less other guilders stumbling across things in Hwyaden's own HQ & 2) another place to get descent food access & 3) Having an aligned guild with a base of operations at the marine port is a good thing too.

But the first thing the Nightmare Were Fang notices is a familiar face amongst the working. "Well now, if it isn't the Golden oldie. Found a use for some of that real world experience have you?"
Goldenblade

Goldenblade looks up as Kauchemar comes over and calls out, and she laughs. "Oh yeah, this is nothing. Brick's would be better for building, I think, but they've already got their plans, and so I'm doing what I can." She's got a toolbelt on over her mail and swordbelt, with a little pouch for nails and a notch to hang the hammer from. She points to thw drawings and the foreman who's directing traffic, so to speak, organizing the labor, and she says, "This is just part of the building frame, of course. It's the very beginning stages of what's going to happen, but it's coming together at a good place. A lot of people are helping out."
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Kauchemar tilts her head as she looks over the stockpile. "I imagine stone and crafted brick are hard and expensive to come by yet. So wood and a bit of magic is probably the best way to go." Then turns her attention to watch the foreman and the going-ons in general. "Especially if they're going to fix up an existing building rather than start from scratch."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade hrms and nods finally at the stone and brick being expensive amd hard to come by. "I suppose that's so," she agrees. "And they are trying to get in the game quickly, I expect. They wouldn't want to wait or take forever to craft up something that wouldn't match with the rest of the structure and all." She pauses to take stock of her wood and drive a nail in with a few hard strokes of her hammer. If there's an automated way to do it, she hasn't found it. This is easier for her. Now that she's not seventy-five.
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

If she never does figure out the menu command she's actually better off, because doing it by hand with skills has been proven to have better crafting results. Since Golden is already doing it 'the old fashioned way' Kauchemar is just going to assume that either she's been told already, or is blissfully unaware of the alternative. Either is a better result.

Thump.. thump.. thump.. Kauchemar starts tapping a hoof along with the beat of Golden's hammer swings. Then reachs under her cloak to pull her lute from inventory. "They often say work goes faster with a song."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade eyes Kauchemar, snorts with a sort of derisive amusement. "Work goes faster with two people doing it," she says dryly as the lute comes out. "If we were packed with laborers already, then yeah, a song would be nice to get everyone's moods up. But as to now, it's just a way to avoid swinging a hammer," she accuses. "Still, do as you like, I don't think there's so much to do that we can't spare a pair of hands."
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Kauchemar just smirks and her eyes sparkle when Golden teasingly accuses her of trying to get out of the actual work. "You're applying your best talents to the job, I can at least do to the same." She taps her hoof a few more times at a slightly faster pace, then starts to play a motivating upbeat tune.

As she's doing so though she's also summoning one of her Binder spirits, the entity barely visible to the untrained eye. Until there's a poof of green and purple glimmer around one of the hammers as the specteral monster possesses the object, and it springs to life on its own to start pounding in nails to the rhythm of it's master's playing.
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade's eyes widen as Kauchemar does the magic thing, and when she sets the hammer to hammering magically, she'll allow, "Okay, -that- counts as contributing." And now she's got to hammer a bit faster, both to keep pace with the music and to keep pace with the other hammer. She hammers her thumb, spits out a curse quite loudly, and goes right back to hammering, shaking out her left hand for a few moments before resuming the normal hammering. She's not precisely applying her best talents to the job, but the best talents she has that the job actually needs. Now if the job needed someone to be stabbed with a sword, then she could put her best talents to the job.
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

See that right there is why Kauchemar is not getting her own fingers in the way of hammers.

She does wince sympathetically though, and between the thumb smash and her own possessed hammer not being exceptionally accurate at first slows her beat down just a little. No need to have people hurting themselves over the matter. But it's clear when she said she was a Muse of Magic, Music -and- Monsters she wasn't exaggerating.
Goldenblade

Goldenblade manages a shrug as she continues until the current nails are all driven in. She then eyes her thumb, turning nicely purple, and moves onto another junction where the nailing begins again. "It's just a thing that happens sometimes," she says fatalistically. "If you complain about it, it just hurts more. If you keep working, you'll stop thinking about it."
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

"You're not wrong," Kauchemar replies. "Better to look ahead than sit on it... but forgetting how we got were we are can be just as self-defeating." She shrugs a shoulder without disrupting her montage playing. The possessed hammer is doing most of the work after all. She's just directing it along. "Look to the future to hope, look to the past to learn."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade hrms to Kauchemar, and she says, "I am fairly certain me banging my thumb with a hammer did not cause us to be stuck in a video game. So I do not think that it is entirely pertinent." She finishes up the second joint, and seeing the hammer going on it's own, she will start the next few nails with just a few strokes, and leave them standing tall for the magic hammer to finish driving in. It's a bit like an assembly line, then, she'll set up nails, and Kauchemar's hammer can drive them home. That seems to have increased their collective pace.
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

"Insightful sayings with the Muse territory. Relevence is at your own discresion." This shift in the work process may seem small, but it's a strong dynamic. Without having to line up the nails Kauchemar can keep the spirited hammer working efficiently and accurately. At least she's not trying to do it by playing that one song that actually has 'hammer time' in its lyrics. It's not a constructive to work rhythm.
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade does not stop for hammertime. Hammertime is a time for working, not stopping in any event, so the association would confuse her. Alas, she does not know the song, her kids were not part of the generation that listened much to that genre, and it's much too old for her grandkids, unless one of them really digs out the retro. Start hammertime might be a little more appropriate, but then we would be starting over and over, and that'd be a bit confusing, too. Quickly enough, though, the first framework is done, and Goldenblade will lift it up and laborers will carry it to a staging place while the foreman directs new lumber to be placed in such a way that they can be nailed together.
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Kauchemar lets the hammer rest as well for the moment, and sits herself on a spare supply crate to make a few adjustments to the tuning of her instrument. It tends to need regular tweaking with how often she uses it. "And before anyone asks, no I can't animate more hammers." Pause. ".. Well no, I could, but the more entities I have to keep in line the less focused and precise they will be."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade says to Kauchemar, "I can only swing one hammer at a time as well, with anything resembling accuracy, so none should accuse you of slacking for doing the same." When the new wood is lined up according to the foreman's plans, and he's shown the drawings to all the laborers so they know where the joins should be, he steps back, and Goldenblade resumes the team plan of starting the nails with just a few strokes, then moving on to the next.
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

"You realize that and I realize that." Kauchemar gives a bit of a flare to her first strum, which makes the Binder hammer spring back to motion again, and settles back into the previous pattern of finishing what Golden lines up and starts that worked so well the first time. "But some people assume that magic is a catch-all, do-everything solution. I blame certain big movie companies for that sort of misinformation."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade shrugs about magic being a catch-all for solving problems. "The Disney story made pretty clear that a magic solution to everything needs to be carefully reviewed and controlled and understood or bad things will happen. That story came out when I was ... uh... maybe three our four." Seems Goldenblade is knowledgeable about the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Well, it's from back in the day. "The new children's shows are the ones with that platform."
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Kauchemar laughs briefly as Golden points that out. "Okay, okay, so moreso modern media then." Although not as old she knows exactly what Golden is talking about. Considering how the segments of that overall movie are all musically driven, it's probably not that much of a surprise that a bard that has considerable actual musical awareness outside the game would know of such.

Now she's not even playing any specific tune, just letting her music flow on its own to direct the hammer, and blend in some of the other sounds of the work area around them. Ambience does wonders on its own.
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade nods about the modern media. "I suppose that's the case," she agrees, and she's got a rhythm to setting up the nails. She works better with the music as well. She's in the rhythm now, and starting nail after nail, picking the points per the diagram, and it's pretty effective.
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Occasionally the spirit possessed hammer pauses for a bit, to give Goldenblade a chance to stay ahead of it with the aligning and starting of nails. Though even then it's bobbing lightly to the music, keeping the tempo until it eventually goes back to hammering on the beat. Kauchemar was honestly enjoying herself. It was a good performance, even if putting on a show wasn't the primary intent right now.
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

More people are watching the dancing hammer than working, until they're chivvied back to work by the supervisors. Goldenblade is starting the nails, but finally runs out of places to nail and pauses, letting the hammer drive the last few in this assembly. She wipes her brow on her sleeve to brush the sweat from her forehead, and she looks up with a grin as the last of the nails being driven in. She'll help lift up the completed piece, and then that one gets carried off as well.
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Kauchemar strums for a bit longer to wind down her playing, and the hammer settles to the ground and goes still as she finishes. "That worked out very well, Golden. Mayhaps I shall swing along to pitch a few more useful chords again as it's needed." The lute is set aside, and Kauchemar actually gets up and helps in moving the piece off to the side to be retrieved by others for the next step. Being a horse does have it's perks when it comes to physical stuff. She's just more proficient when using her other abilities.
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade smiles widely as the second frame is moved away, and she nods to Kauchemar about it working out well. "Indeed it did, and your playing did make the work lighter. So you have done two things where I only did the one. You have done more than your share, then, by both hammering and playing." She'll stretch her back as the next set of wooden beams are set into place, but this one is resulting in a bit of complicated discussion between the supervisor and some of the workers.
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Kauchemar shakes her head, mane swaying with the motion. "In the end it matters that the work is done and the project moves forward, not who did what or how much. Sometimes one part of the orchestra plays more or less than the others, but the symphony is as a whole from -all- contributions."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade nods about the importance being the work getting done. "That's the right attitude," she agrees. She nods about the orchestra thing, and says, "Do they even have orchestras here? There were a few back home, though not as many as when I was growing up." She considers, then will move over closer to see what the discussion is about with the drawings. "They seem to be taking a long time to set up," she observes.
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

"I doubt that level of artistic organization exists yet, in the manner we think of it. Over half of those kind of instruments haven't even been invented yet in this era." Kauchemar shrugs a bit, before turning her attention towards the discussion for a moment. "Mayhaps it has reached a point that will take a longer time to organize before moving on. There is a lot to be done after all."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade considers the idea of an orchestra, and suggests, "That might be an interesting long term goal. I think I might be able to make brass or woodwinds, if I had plans. Otherwise, I'd have no idea how long to make each section and where to place the fingery bits. But it would be a spectacular thing, wouldn't it? The first time I heard Tschaikovsky's 1812 overture with the big kettledrums for cannons, it was just amazing." As to the project, we're told by the supervisor, "They need to bring out more long beams than they had prepositioned, it will be as much as an hour, but no more."
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Kauchemar nods. "And some of those fiddly bits just may not be possible yet. In the future, perhaps." It's followed by a shrug, and she sits back down. "Sounds like a good time for a break, then. Save strength until there is more work ready to be done."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade nods about taking a break. Some of the cooking people are handing out sandwiches, and she'll take one. She sighs. "Tuna fish." She takes a bite, hrms. "They seem to have started the actual cooking," she observes. "This tastes like actual food."
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

"So it would seem. Good thing though. Can't expect people to work on an empty stomache. " Kauchemar accepts a sandwhich as well, though it gets her musing even as she bites into it.
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade takes a few more bites, and she wonders, "What are you thinking? It looks like you habe something on your mind?" She takes a small cup of water she's handed to wash it down, then hands the cup back. She looks around to see the state of the other projects going on, and wonders, "I don't suppose they need help with those?"
Gwen
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Gwen has been working handling some of the supply deliveries and more imporantly she was bringing food to the people who worked on it. The towering woman was pretty chipper about it, she get they may be eating already. "Better actual food than the slop most lander vendors try to sell us on." Gwen makes a face as she'll hand out what appeart to be cookies and wait are those hotdogs?
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

"Just considering other ways to help," Kauchemar replies. Was she just thinking, or maybe it was something else. Considering the way she smirks a bit when Gwen comes along and comments on the food differences, she might of been considering several things. "Oh, well then." She reachs into her inventory, and pulls out the big hunk of 'Tasty Rat Meat' she aquired from one of the Duty's. "Mayhaps you can put this to better use, in keeping these hard working folks well fed."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade has had her sandwich already, so she sighs as the hot dogs go around. She's not going to gorge herself now that there's real food, let everyone have some. Though she wonders, "Can the Landers taste the difference between our food and theirs?" That's definiteli piqued her curiosity. She will take a cookie, dessert's not the same thing as doubling up on the entrees. And she will be sure to get a hot dog for supper. "You have mustard, I hope?" she asks Gwen when she goes by. A hot dog without mustard is such a sad thing. Though the sight of the rat meat perhaps makes sure she's done eating for now.
Gwen
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Gwen says "I think I can do something with that." She notes no thinking about it too hard really. "That's something to look into but it doesn't change that if they want our business they will need to adapt." She finds a spot to sit. "Things seem to be underway nicely on this though and you seem to be getting into it. Well enough when it comes to thing somethings fizzel out I figure it's a matter of leveling up and practice on those." No pizza yet. "As for condemtn I'll look into that I have to work with what I have on hand."
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Kauchemar has given both work and resources to the project, and that makes her happy. Despite all the haunting darkness she surrounds herself in, helping others to get and be better is still part of her motivation. "It is good to see that the other guilds are moving to make a place for themselves in this world. Being situated near the marina is good for accessing the other nations... even with the long travel times of sailing."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade peers at Gwen, and sighs about no mustard. "Hopefully you'll have some sooner rather than later," she declares. She nods about things being underway, though, and getting into it. "I'll be a guildhouse for me as well, so I have a vested interest." Not so vested that she's on the chinlink channel, but she's here, though. "Yes," she says to Kauchemar, "I defnitely think that will open up opprtunitirs for us."
Gwen
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Gwen says "The ground floor will be a restruant to help fund us and let people who have maid work on their cooking skills. We'll also need to keep it supplied as well. It's something to do and help spread the alliance out a little bit as well right? It also gives our alliance a waystation as well."
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Kauchemar jestures a finger lazily towards Gwen. "Exactly. Stronger guilds make the Alliance stronger and stable. That is why I am here, despite being from a different part of the Alliance. We're all stronger together."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade hrms, nods about the ground floor. "That'll be double nice, to have a good restaurant so close." And it being a maid cafe is a nice touch of ... well, a fetish from home, and not one of hers, but it seems quite recognizable. And there are worse things than waiters and waitresses dressed formally. That gives it a high-class ambiance.

To Kauchemar, she says, "I'm actually not clear on this Guild business, to be honest. I clicked on a thing someone said to click when first logged on, and they've helped me here and there, which is one reason I'm here helping them. But .... other than that, I know next to nothing about it." She's not even on the Guild's chimlink channel.
Gwen
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Gwen says "You are damn lucky you ended up with a newbie helper guild Goldenblade. Glad you ended up with us it could be bad with how some guilds treat new adventuerers. We'll have to run you though some of the basic stuff if you want at some point. We need to get you on the Chimlink for the guild and alliance too."

She notes and then to Kauchemar. "Good to get interplay betwen the guilds. If a guild was to wall itself off from the rest of the alliance...it would make it weaker."
Kauchemar
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

"Itself and the Alliance as a whole." Kauchemar nods, and leans over to pick up her instrument and place it back in her inventory. "I should be on my way for now. But I will help spread the word, maybe drum up some more interest for you. It is part of a Messenger's role after all."
Goldenblade
Carmina Gadelica Marina - Inner Square

Goldenblade nods to Gwen, and says, "Someone from another guild tried to get me to join them first, but they seemed pretty shady to me." One of the interesting issues with being such a total noob is that she investigates things more thouroughly than a lot of more experienced people do. Because she doesn't understand what's expected and what's strange. "Your person seemed actually helpful and well-disposed, so I felt you guys were more trustworthy."

On the other hand, she's still pretty clueless in areas. "What's a chimlink?"

She waves farewell to Kauchemar, and says, "Thank you for your help earlier, it went very fast with your assistance."
