Tournament - Signup Open

It is a cool spring day but the plaza of Castle Reach is bustling with activity. A couple tables have been setup and attended for adventurers to sign up for the tournament. The tournament poster is prominently displayed both outside the castle walls and near the signup booths. Pamphlets with instructions and further details are available and actively being passed out to the adventurers as they enter the plaza through the main gate of the castle.

Just off to the side of the booths Zorin discusses final preparations and distribution of tournament advertising with others from the alliance but is near enough that he is able to assist or answer questions that may come up at the signup booths if needed. Posters and pamphlets have already been shipped out to Hunters Guilds in the various Root Towns, but smaller less artistic posters are being posted in other locations such as restaurants, markets, and other high traffic areas.

Here to assist is none other than BlackRose herself. She's not wielding her sword, but she's still got her usual attire on. The young woman stands ready looking around as people come in. She looks over the booths as well, looking to see where her assistance might be required. For now, she's assisting with handing out pamphlets. (Quite a weird word, isn't it?)

"Welcome, here's some information on what this is all about," BlackRose says as she hands out the information packets to those who arrive.

Among the Scale Emblem staff that see to be working the sign-ups is a blue-haired young woman wearing a dark dress that is distinctly gothic in styling. The black mage Imp is sitting at one of the sign-up booths, a clipboard set out in front of her as well as a inkwell with a very flashy looking feather quill. Afterall, it has to look official for the sign-ups, right? A pencil just wouldn't do.

"Come on up." She motions towards those waiting. "Sign ups here. We've also got a special transportation plus room and board plan you can sign up for. One low price. Don't get to Breg Epona and have no place to stay!" Kita calls out, seemingly enthusiastic about her role as paper-pusher for the tournament.

    Merek looks around while he comes upon the Tournament Sign-Up. The cool weather means that he is wearing what looks to be his usual attire and hood, while he weaves a Wave Art of his energy coat, keeping him a bit comfortable while he finds a place to settle in. He does notice BlackRose and walks up to the woman, "You participating too? I think my friend Vertina will be."

Vertina strolls into the castle that served as her Alliance's HQ, with a pleased grin on her face as she does. Some of the people headed back home to get ready for this after the Calamity event but she stuck around Breg Epona for a bit longer to do a few things. Sure, she could of just signed up there, but she's got reasons to come back now, before having to stay over there for a longer term for the actual Tournament.

Goldenblade has shown up to sign up for the tournament, and so she'll move up to one of the booths as well. She's got a heavy cloak on, and there's almost an aura around her. She doesn't have magic, per se, but she seems to radiate ... if not heat, at least a sense of warmth. "Hello," she says. "I'm here to sign up, what do I do now?"

    Wisteria has arrived possibly with a tall salamander and/or smol fire breathing tiger. She's hanging about she's signing up but she's more interested in seeing who else is signing up so she can scout the competition. Not to mention see who might make good MCs and pull them aside to talk with them if she thinks they'd be good.

After completing a discussion with an adventurer that heads back into the SEA HQ, Zorin moves over to the signup booths and looks through the already completed forms. Glancing over to Kita sitting nearby he smiles warmly, "It is looking like it will be a pretty good turnout, and that is just what I see here so far. I think your help with the artwork on the posters really helped draw attention." Then looking out at the milling adventurers he asks, "I know things are just getting going, but how have things been looking from your perspective?"

"Hey Wisteria!" Vertina pauses to give the bun a hello hug around the shoulders with one arm. "You here for the tournament or the MCing?" Then she turns her head to look around a bit. "You see Zorin around yet? Figure he'd be back here getting this under way as well."

As Goldenblade steps up to the booth, Kita offers out a clipboard and one of the pamphlets. "Check out the rules general information here. If everything looks good, sign your character name here." She motions to the inkwell and very flashy looking quill pen. "If you're interested in the transportation and lodging package, then fill out the second form. Payment is due when you board the ship for the Holy Empire." She explains.

As Zorin approaches, Kita offers him a smile, pushing her glasses up on her nose. "Seems like a good turn out. I think everyone is excited for an opportunity to test their mettle. I don't have that competative spirit, but I'm more than happy to log matches and cheer on those competing." Her tail sways, some measure of excitement there. "Besides, it gets me away from Tolbana for a few weeks."

    There are some murmurs coming from a group of Adventurers near the entrance to the castle plaza. Those who pay attention will be able to hear some of the comments.

        "Hey, isn't that-"
    "Yeah, it is!"
            "It's not surprising to see her here."
                "Yeah, I'd hate to be paired up against her."
        "Yep, I'm going to be betting all my money on her!"
    "Wait, who's she again?"
                "Idiot, that's Zekken, the famous dueler!"

    Sure enough, walking into the plaza is Yuuki. As people in the area notice her and start talking, she gives them a grin and wave. She quickly makes a beeline for the signup sheets, looking very enthusiastic!

Goldenblade hrms to Kita, and asks, "What transportation? Is the tournament someplace other than here?" She signs up with her full name, which overruns the block by quite a large amount. She looks around, then admits, "I get confused by places as it is, and usually just follow people. If you can explain where things are, that'd be hugely helpful."

With a contented grin Zorin looks back to Kita, "Trust me, I appreciate the assistance. You, Wisteria, BlackRose, everyone. This is a team effort. We are fortunate to even have made a deal with some adventurers who plan to sell Japanese inspired food at the event to give it a feel for home." Then Zorin sets down the filled out forms back in their place. "I think the attention we draw to our alliance will be well worth the effort, not to mention the chance for our members to really test their skills in a safe way."

Then looking out over the adventurers he spots a particularly confident looking imp, "Speaking of testing one's skills, I think one of the more anticipated individuals has shown up. No surprise there I suppose." He says as he eyes Yuuki heading straight their way.

    Merek then looks to Zorin, while he nods a bit, then walks up to write in on his contract, then another wishing for lodging along with transporation. Then he offers that while he nods, "Thank you." The hood looks to people he knows, then he begins offering his contact information as well for Friending.

If there's one person who would absolutely sign up for a PvP focused event, it would be Kasai Tora. The Silent Blade is a renowned PvPer, and ever since the apocalypse has been looking for an excuse to do battle with his fellow players. Since killing has been frowned upon by most, he has moved away from that and to less..Exciting forms of entertainment.

Hood pulled up, he is none the less on his way to the sign up booths, tail twitching behind him a bit. He spots Yuuki. Of course she's here, no doubt she'll win the whole thing. If there's anyone out there better than him, he'd acknowledge it to be her in a heartbeat.

    Wisteria grins showing off lots of razor fangs and squeezes Vertina back. "He's over there." she points to Z and Kita. "At the sign-ups." she says "I'm doing both, and recruiting for MCs since there's no way I can do everyone." she says with a laugh "It'll be cool though." she says happily "I've misssed having an actual ranked competition to prep for."

    Yuuki makes it to the sign-up counter, making a short hop into place in front of it. She raises her hand into the air, grinning at Zorin and Kita as she says, "I'd like to sign up! Also if there are any sponsorships available, I'm totally game. I don't have any yet... Though I suppose there aren't that many companies around yet." She taps her chin thoughtfully, "Hmmm, maybe I can get Hifumi's place to sponsor me..." Yuuki seems to have become distracted for a moment.

    But she quickly remembers why she's here, "Oh! The sign-up! Right. Anything special I need to know?"

Kita's eyes widen slightly as Goldenblade starts to write out her full name. "Wow, were you testing if they had a max-character limit on the character name field?" She asks, looking impressed. "The tournament is in the Holy Empire. It's about a two day trip by boat, and then another half-day by trader caravan from the port to the main city." She explains, "People are welcome to arrange their own transportation, but I can guarantee that we've got the best rates."

With usual Japanese humility, Kita just shakes her head, "It's fine, Zorin. Scale Emblem has been good to me, so I return the favor wherever I can." But, then he has to speak to her heart when he talks about bringing some of their native inspired food along with the event. "You know, I haven't had good sushi in ages. That would be nice."

She does a quick scan of Merek's information, then gives him a nod and a welcoming smile. "Welcome. All the information on the transport schedule is in the pamphlet." The Imp gives him a charming smile. "Good luck in the fighting."

As Zorin draws attention to Yuuki, Kita follows his line of sight, "I'm not familiar with her reputation. I didn't really get into those sort of circles before the Apocalypse. Is she good?" Of course, Kita asks this just as Yuuki walks up, so it's easy enough to overhear her. "Oh, just sign here. All the rules and information are in the pamphlets. The second page has transportation sign-ups." As for sponsorships, Kita just gives a questioning look towards Zorin.

Vertina ahs, nodding. "Cool. That'll keep you busy! And yeah. I miss being able to compete in such things. Just getting the oppritunity to will be great. Of course, getting a decent rank will be a sweet bonus, but it took several years of soccer before I got a first place game. So no rushing good things." She squeezes Wisteria one more time before letting go and walking over to the sign-up booths. "Hey Zorin! Other people. Hopefully potential future opponents!", she grins with teeth not nearly as sharp as her bun-friends, but they're certainly sharper than humans.

Kasai lurks behind Yuuki, doing his usual creepy loner thing. That's what he specialzies in after all. He waits for her to sign up, unless one of the other Scale Emblem folks calls him over to sign up at a different table of course. Some of them may know him if they followed PvP stories before the apocalypse.

Of course with the sheer number of people who were just starting off with the new expansion, his reputation has taken a major hit.

Goldenblade replies glumly to Kita, "Max-character ... what? No, not really." Goldenblade's player is a noob at the entire computer thing, not just VRMMOs, and even basic skills like copy and paste sometimes get the better of her. She ohs about the two-day trip by boat and half-day by caravan. That sounds familiar, that's how she got here, but she's been so many places, and her mind is stuffed with travelling, and she can't keep the places straight, so that makes it hard to keep the time-to-destinations straight. "Well, if you've got the best rates, then I suppose I'll sign up with you guys."

    Wisteria walks along with Vertina "Yah, but it'll be worth it, when I fight as a deus having an MC really makes the whole thing feel cooler. And well when I'm fighting on the mat it's just so much focus." she shrugs "So I figure the MC will make the crowd happier and anyone who's really into the tourney will just drown me out with their zanshin." she waves to Z and Kita "Hey guys." she smiles "Gotta sign up and all that stuff, it'd be a shame to work on it and not get in on the action."

    Merek looks to the information, then nods a bit in thanks. With that, the man then looks to the people all about the place, and finds a place to settle in and would begin to relax a little bit as well if he can.

Zorin gives Merek a smile and approving nod when he comes to sign up. "Good to see you, Merek. I wish you the best of luck in the tournament!"

At Yuuki's question about sponsorship Zorin grins, "In fact there are some sponsorship opportunities for members of the Scale Emblem Alliance! Unfortunately, I only know your personal reputation from before.. you know." and he waves his hand briefly in the air "Are you currently in a guild? Someone with your skills would be a significant boon in our efforts to climb the tower. I don't suppose you might consider joining one of our esteemed guilds?" Then after a short pause, "Otherwise though not so much. We are offer a package deal in order to streamline and make things easy for adventurers to attend the tournament that includes both transportation there and a place to stay for the duration of the tournament."

Having done her part in distributing information, BlackRose proceeds to step back a little into the background to take care of what needs to be done back 'there.' She's hoping to face some decent competition in the tournament that she helped out with, so it's kind of a double deal.

    Merek nods a bit to Zorin, "Of course, thank you. It's good to see you too," he mentions, while he takes a moment to simply watch the place, then he's adjusting the hood while he of course would figure it's the perfect time to take a nap.

"Yeah. Good idea to have day dedicated to sign ups even if it's available at the Hunter's Guild. Seeing how much some of us Adventurers wander around." Vertina holds out a hand. "Let's see that form. Best to just get it all done and out of the way and have the rest of the week for practicing and prep!"

Miho might be a bit of unknown though a shortish Salmander girl in smiths carb a bit busty and with stark blue hair might get some attention. Oh yes, goggles she also has goggles, she's talking on chimlink right now to someone but she seems to be eyeing the folks there. Her tail is swaying as she's watching the comings and goings, though one might notice something off she does have a Katana sheathed at her hip.

    Yuuki does hear Kita's question. And although Yuuki doesn't know if it was specifically related to her, she answers anyway, "I'm the best! Just you wait and see. I'll be the one holding that trophy at the end!" Pause. "Is there a trophy? Now that I think about it, I haven't heard what the prizes are like!"

    Yuuki takes one of the pamphlets and starts to flip through it. Though after a general murmur of discontent from her holding up the line, Yuuki blinks, "Oh, right! The sign-up." She quickly signs her name on the form. Easy enough.

    Though at the lack of any immediate sponsorship opportunities, Yuuki awwws, "Well. Maybe I'll find someone." Though at the guild invite she grins, "Thanks for the offer, but I'm happy with my guild."

    Yuuki steps aside out of the sign-up queue before going back to leafing through the pamphlet, "Prizes... Prizes... Ah. Here we go!"

"If anyone's boasting is to be beleived, it's her's." Kasai speaks up from behind Yuuki, moving up to the table and taking one of the sign up pamphlets. He looks over it, reading rules and thinking on things. When Yuuki mentions being happy with her guild, he does grin faintly. He's happy with their guild as well, even if their main thing so far has been 'Go out and do what's fun'

"Oh? Well, it's an impressive name." Kita confirms, offering Goldenblade one of the same winning sort of smiles she has been offering out to everyone else. It's an expression that is just shy of being too practiced. "Awesome. So, the schedule is here in the pamphlet. Just pick the boat departure that best fits your schedule." She explains, "Just make sure you don't miss the last departure." Which would likely mean having to arrange transport yourself, last minute.

Wisteria is given a wry look as she steps up. "Of course. Can't wait to see you compete. If you're as good a fighter as an organizer, then people are in for trouble." As Vertina holds out her hand, Kita offers out a form as well.

"Well, if you're the best, then I'll look forward to getting to see your matches." Kita raises her brows, "Competition brings out all sorts. I'm already signed up to be the required cheering section for at least one fighter. So it should be fun."

Goldenblade overhears a bit of something else confusing, glancing toward Wisteria, and turns back to ask Kita, "We need to bring our own emcee? I can do my own announcing, really, and I don't really think I know anyone that I would ask to do something like that. Anyhow, you really ought to consider just supplying one person as like a ring announcer and not making every competitor have their own."

She sighs a bit at Yuuki's self-confidence, and resolves that since she's just going there to practice against people, it won't matter how bad she stinks. She's wildly new, and harbors no illusions about her actual level of skill.

She takes the pamphlet from Kita, peering at it, and says, "Oh, I'll likely head back over during the week. I think that's where I'm mostly from." Because all these places seem the same to her.

    Merek seems to be listening and watching when he's not napping, though eventually kind of just finds a place to settle in.

Vertina looks up to wave to the smol smithy salamander briefly, then goes back to filling in all the proper forms. "Aaaw, you guys don't -want- to hike across the desert as a warm-up excersize?" she teases at seeing the caravan transport listing.

Yeah, Yuuki is going to be the tough one to beat, that's for certain. Vertina is more than happy just being able -to- compete again, so she'll worry about that sort of thing later if she has to.

Zorin has a slight frown as Yuuki casually dismisses his offer to join the alliance but he shrugs as she wanders off reading the pamphlet. He hasn't really been up to speed on what guilds people belong to outside of the alliance, but that was unfortunate. Yuuki might well be one of the top picks to win the Tourney, she definitely has a reputation.

Zorin grins at Wisteria after she signs herself up for the tournament, "This should be good, I'm looking forward to seeing your matches!" He then smiles at Vertina, "Good luck in the tournament to you as well!"

Then to Goldenblade he says, "Glad to have you in the tournament. If you think of any further questions you have later on you are always welcome to find one of the tournament staff to ask." And he smiles encouragingly at the follow human.

    Yuuki's pointy ears twitch for a moment as she hears a familiar voice. Looking around, she catches sight of Kasai. Who apparently had been in line behind her the whole time! Yuuki laughs in surprise, "Oh, Kasai! I didn't notice you there." He is a sneaky one after all.

    Yuuki notices that he's signed up for the tournament, "You're participating too? Great! Good luck and all. And don't worry, if we wind up against each other, I won't go easy on you!" It seems that in Yuuki's eyes, that's a good thing!

Vertina hands her signed forms in, and tucks the pamphlet away for easy referal later. "Hey Zorin. While I was still in Breg Epona I picked up some old used weapons. Just worn generic stock, but I figured spending some coin on those and then fixing them up for practice weapons for the training facilities would be a bit more cost effective. And if they end up breaking from use, we're not burned on the cash that'd go towards newly forged gear."

Wisteria smiles and waves at folks she recognizes. "Well wouldn't want to do that unless we're heading over early. Don't wana burn up too much energy the day or two before we start." she says "But we can always head up to the second floor and spend some time fighting up there to get use to the environment difference." she says with a chuckle and hipbumps Vertina.

"You don't need your own MC." Kita confirms, shaking her head. "We're recruiting volunteers. Those who don't want to fight, or want to contribute in other ways are always welcome. Crafters who want to offer armor or weapon repairs, healers to patch people up, cooks to keep everyone fed. There's lots of opportunities not just on the battle field." The Imp thumbs at herself. "I am volunteer paper-pusher. Fighting isn't my thing. I leave that to my partner."

With so many people having signed up in a short period, Kita looks over all the forms, double checking that everything is filled out properly. "I'll probably be heading over to Breg Epona tomorrow with Jurou. Make sure everything is set up ahead of the arrival of the fighters." Knowing any large gathering, something is bound to go wrong, so better to have feet on the ground there early.

"Nor would I expect you to." Kasai replies to her, as he begins to fill out his form, "In fact if you did, I would be very unhappy. I trust you know I feel the same." He considers a little bit, rubbing his chin, "I see the bragging rights from winning as a bigger prize than the actual prize. Not that I'll turn it down.."

"That is great news, Vertina!" and Zorin grins broadly, "It's great to see the alliance working on the different projects we have, and I know our members will benefit from having the extra supplies to practice with." He tilts his head slightly as he considers, "I would recommend talking with our quartermaster to store those until some of our equipment and facilities are a little further along. I'm sure she will take good care of them until we are fully ready."

Goldenblade looks over as Zorin speaks, blinks, and breathes a sigh of relief. "Ah, thank you," she says. "It's good to see another human, I don't see many around." She looks back to Kita a bit guiltily. "Not that I have anything against anyone. It's just easier to talk to humans." She nods about not needing an MC. "Ah, okay." At the mention of crafters to repair armor or weapons, she says, "I might be able to do that. I'm not entirely clear on how, but my information seems to say that I can. I think?"

Vertina gives Zorin a thumbs up. "Sounds good. I'm also going to use fixing them up to work on figuring out my forging capacity outside the menu commands. I'll pass them along to storage as they're ready."

She laughs and hip bops Wisteria back. Most people here probably don't realize how nice it is having a friend of similar stature that you can actually do that with. "The arena isn't nearly as bad as the desert itself, but that is a good idea for some practice."

Miho has been silent watching people she doesn't really know anyone here save maybe VErttina whom she's seen once or twice.

"So a tournament huh? Just how good are the Scale's smiths?"

She'll but her way in, tail swaishing a bit as she does so. "You going into this Vertina?"

    Wisteria laughs happily. "Plus we can hunt the second floor for any glitches or special resources or unique monsters now that we're not concentrating on the boss." she nods her head to Z and Kita "I'm terrible at paperwork so thank you for doing it." she says "I only know a bit about art and stuff because well..." she shrugs "What Kendoka doesn't study the shoganate periods?" she smiles her fluffball of a tail flitting a bit as she thinks about getting in practice, in the grind before the tourney.

"Sure am! It's great being able to compete properly again." Vertina answers Miho, then nods to Wisteria. "Yeah, not having to focus on the boss, or the Calamity, or..." She stops a moment, blinks, and then cusps a hand to her chin in a moment of thought. "Did anyone else notice that the Calamity happened in a region with similar environment as the floor of the Boss that was defeated?"

Goldenblade's comment has Kita laughing, clearly bemused. Her Imp tail twitches behind her and her small wings give a little playful flap. "Aww, not fond of Imps? Probably for the best. We're trouble." She gives the human a wink.

Wisteria is given a nod and a grin from Kita, flashing pointed Imp teeth. "Not a problem. I was a complete book worm back in the real world. So this suits me. I come by the nerd glasses willingly." She pushes them up on her nose.

She overhears Miho's question, but other than a tilt of the head, she seems uncertain, "Honestly, I'm not sure? Good enough to outfit our people for the Tower, but probably not as cutting edge as some of the other Alliances. Were you looking to volunteer?"

Goldenblade shrugs guiltily, shakes her head to Kita. "It's not that, so much. It's just a thing. I've heard it called Uncanny Valley before, though I have no idea where that is or how to get there. I don't imagine you're from there? I've never heard of anyone who is... And ... To be honest, all the non-humans I've met here," not that she's met any anywhere else, "have been very personable. But I just find them a little uncomfortable." She can't explain it further.

Wisteria's cheek fur fluffs out a bit likely ablush response she lacks in were form. "I read too." she says trying not to sound defensive or like she's taken offense. "I just mostly read light novels... it's actually helped some." she says rubbing one long ear and pulling it down by the tip like she needs to inspect it. "Reading about isekai and stuff I mean has been helpful here, keeping perspective." she says.

    "Not that I was the one who started choosing sitting quietly in the library reading as a way to hang out." she almost whispers to herself, likely just lound enough to be overheard by those right with her, but obviously intended for herself and not as a bit of conversation.

Miho says "Yeah I did we were damn lucky it didn't end up in the middle of a city or some other settlement."

Miho notes while her tail swishes.

"We're going to need better gear at this rate, a lot better gear."

Vertina is standing right next to Wisteria so naturally she heard it. But all she does is give her friend a light nudge and a reassuring smile since that wasn't meant to be part of the on-going conversation. Then rubs the back of her head with one hand and chuckles awkwardly. "I honestly didn't do much in reading until later in life. Too busy with physical activities." Like not until she didn't have much else for options to pass the time.

Moving a bit back from the signup booths Zorin looks around at the gathered adventurers and gives a small nod, this were going well so far. Then he lifts his hand to his ear and turns to the side, as if listening to something. After a few seconds he replies quietly, "Sure thing, I will be right over." Then after lowering his hand he moves back over to Kita and leans down to whisper, "Somethings come up that they want me to take a quick look at inside. Nothing urgent, but I will be back a bit later. If anything comes up just message me over chimlink." Then he straightens again and casually makes his way inside the HQ.

"Uncanny Valley usually has to do with something that looks close to human, but something just looks off." Kita smirks, "Though, my avatar is based on a body-scan, so most of this is me. The only things that aren't are the tail, the wings, the fangs, and there are horns up here somewhere." She taps the brim of her witch's cap. Still, her appearance isn't exactly normal by Japanese standards.

As Zorin leans in, Kita gives a nod. "I'll hold down the fort, boss. Go do what you have to."

For Wisteria's sake, the Imp just shakes her head, "I've just heard more tails of your bad-assery than anything else. Trust me, I think you've got a pretty good mind, too. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to come up with such good ideas for this."

Goldenblade ohs as Kita explains the uncanny valley thing, and she nods about looking off from human. "That'd definitely explain it," she murmurs at the list of differences from the body scan. "That's a lot of differences, I think?"

She peers at Kita as Zorin speaks to her, and she wonders curiously, "Pardon me asking, what's a chimlink?" But then Kita's got to deal with another customer, and Goldenblade will have to go even longer with no clue.

    Wisteria lets her ear go and bumps into V again. "Chimelinks are like uhmmm groupchat.. like a phone call to your whole guild or aliance that kind of thing." she says and then explains where to find it in the menus. She might not be a 'gamer' but she's been dealing with this for awhile now, and she started off just using this as a video call feature before the apocolypse.

Goldenblade doesn't really understand 'group chat' that's just another vocabulary word she doesn't get. Phone calls, she understands, and she asks, "Like a conference call?" She's never been -in- a conference call, but she's heard supervisors mention them. She'll try poking around the menus as instructed.

"Something like that." Vertina takes the bump, and gives Wisteria a little squoosh around the shoulders again before turning and walking away from the sign-in booths. "If we're gonna go out hunting and grinding before the tourney, I'm going to go get a good chunk of sleep in first. See you guys later."

    Wisteria nods to Golden "Yah, like a conference call. It's a good way to stay in touch." she says. She gives Vert a side hug back. "Use that and you can at least hit up folks you know if you run into any trouble or have any major questions and you're not near a city to find a bunch of adventurers just hanging about."

Goldenblade waves to Vertina as she departs, yawns, and says, "I probably ought to head out as well. Thank you so much," she adds to Wisteria. "I don't expect anyone else has it on, either, but I can see where it might be useful. Oh wait, someone answered up." There is a brief chimlink conversation, and she smiles. "That's pretty good, yeah, I can see where it'd be useful."
