A Passing Meeting

Rylen encounters Wynfei while out taking care of the performers and visiting sellers in Breg Epona.

The Balancing of the Scales is officially underway. That means that there are many Adventurers and Landers flocking to the city. It is a perfect place for those who happen to be opportunistic enough to take advantage of such things. And among them seems to be a troop of performers who have set up both inside and outside of the city proper.

Just outside the main gates, there are a number of performers plying their trade for the coin of passing visitors. Some peddle fortune telling, acrobatics, feats of strength, or other unusual skills. At the moment Rylen seems to be acting as ring-master. The shirtless Pooka calling out, "Come one, come all! A feast for the senses! Take a break from the blood and battle on the Arena sands and join us for merriment!"

Walking out of one of the Inns. A Cait Sith Monkey walks out stretching out and letting out a loud yawn. He looks around and sees that everything is just jumping for The Balance of the Scales Tournament. The smell of food is wafting through teh area, Wynfei's stomach rumbles loudly. "Yeah I know!" he exclaims as he looks down at his stomach. A few odd stares are giving to him as they walk past him.

Wynfei starts heading to the food stalls, and he moves through looking at the many vendors. His tail dances about a little bit as he walks, his clothing is new and there looks to be wraps along his wrists and ankles. Still Wynfei finds a place to eat and he beigins ordering a large bowl of chicken Ramen!

With the influx of people to the city, most restaurants and food stalls closer to the Arena are packed, luckily, those closer to the outside, and thus nearer to the make-shift circus have at least some room. Some cooks are just as good, but have come from elsewhere in Yamato to peddle there wares to those who are drawn to the tournament.

After his carnival barking is finished, Rylen steps down, allowing his place to be taken by a Salamander who begins performing an elaborate display involving fire. The Pooka, on the other hand, takes the opportunity to walk through the stands, checking in with people, offering some a smile, others a clap to the shoulder in support. Eventually, he stops at the same stall as Wynfei, leaning over next to the man to offer the owner, "Everything going well?"

"Business is good!" A somewhat portly looking human returns Rylen's smile, then puts a bowl of ramen down in front of Wynfei.

"Glad to hear." Rylen nods, then actually sits down right next to the monkey Cait Sith. "So, here for the food, the tournament or the entertainment?" He asks.

Praying over his food, Wynfei smiles, though he does glances to his side and sees Rylen, but when the Pooka starts talking to the owner, Wynfei doesn't say anything. He starts to eat and well the monkey Cait Sith eats and he is putting away his ramen. Though when asked what he was here for he turns and slurps up the noodles in his mouth.

Once they are eaten, he takes his napkin and wipes his mouth. "Sorry about that." he says to him. "I'm here for all of it, but I'm in the tournament, just waiting for it to be my turn is all." he says with a grin. "So for now, I enjoy whats out here, train some and watch the matches as they happen." he chuckles. "What about you?" he asks.

The owner of the shop is quick to put down a glass of tea in front of Rylen, as if it were a familiar enough order that the man didn't even have to say it outloud. The shirtless elf takes it and sips at the warm liquid, seeming to enjoy a couple of moments not on his feet.

"Ahh, a fighter then." A grin forms onto Rylen's features, gray eyes watching him curiously. "I'm here largely for all this." He motions to the set of gathered vendors and performers. "Whenever we gather in large numbers, they usually need someone to make sure everyone plays nice and the money flows."

He chuckles to himself, "Though I'm also here to cheer on one of the fighters. He's already fought for this first round, though." He smirks, "Tall guy, black-scaled Salamander. Usually kind of dark and brooding but when he smiles it's a ray of sunshine. Goes by Xander." Rylen leans back a little, taking another sip of his tea. "Hope you don't have to face him, to be honest."

Quirking a brow and he looks around for a moment as well, "Yeah, just like back at home. Have something really nice going on and you have those who want to be jackholes and mess everyting up." he sighs a little. "Well I will be helping with that as well. I'm not going to let any monsters or just idiots mess up our real first big event. I want to see more of these." he smiles.

When Rylen tells him that he's here to watch a friend and begins to describe Xander, he laughs, "Xander, I know him. He's a good guy and a good friend." THough he does raises a brow up a moment, "Well if we meet, it will be one helluva fight." he chuckles. "I want any and all challengers, it's the best way to see if what you're doing is right and how effective you are." he states.

"Luckily, most of the folks here are just trying to make a living in a world where their old skills don't really mean much anymore." Rylen explains, looking out over the cobbled together stands and performance spaces. "We've only had to boot a couple of people, but most people look out for one another. It makes it better for all of us. We all share patrol duty to keep monsters at bay and to protect the camps. Since not everyone got a spot at one of the inns."

By the sheer number of people, it seems that a lot have had to resort to camping outside the town walls. There just isn't enough space within one town for all of those who have gathered.

"Ahh, so you know him?" Rylen doesn't seem surprised, "He's usually training in the courtyard just West of the Arena, if you're trying to find him for some practice. Though the man is pretty intense when you get him into a real fight." Raising his eyebrows, Rylen offers out a hand, "Rylen Corvus. Any friend of Xander's is a friend of mine."

He grins at the monkey's gusto. "It's a good way to look at it. I don't really fight for sport, myself, but I've helped a bit with training others. These days, my time is mostly caught up here, though."

Wynfei would nod his head at hearing this. "Well we all should be, we are in a different Alliances backyard, so it's a good thing we all step up and help out where we can." he says to Rylen. "As for Inns, I was able to work something out with the owner and help out when I'm not fighting or patrolling." he smiles. "It's not a glamourous room, but it's something." he laughs as he turns his attention to his food and finishes it off.

He nods his head, "Yup, I've seen him in a fight and honestly if you don't get excited in a fight, then it's boring and it's just a fight." he says to Rylen. "I mean, I get happy when I know I'm fighitng someone or something that's tougher theen me. It allows me to go all out and see what I can do against my opponent. If I lose, I take that exprience and try to do better, even if I win, I do teh same thing.." quirking a brow up slightly. "Well everyone fight for one reason or the other. Though I think this tournament is just for us to let loose and enjoy ourselves." Sitting there and listening, "Ah, taht is helpful, I've been doing the same thing with Uta and I plan on training with a few others as well."

"Well, you've probably got a fair bit more negotiating power than I do. Besides, I need to stick with this lot." Rylen motions his chin towards the gathering of performers and other wanderers. "I've gotten used to sleeping rough. Its pretty rare that I actually find myself in an inn." Then, he seems to laugh at some kind of internal joke.

"Oh, I enjoy a challenge as much as the next man." He admits, "I just tend to only fight when there's a reason. Someone to protect. Something to accomplish." The Pooka shrugs at that.

Then, he really does laugh, "You know Uta as well? She's likely around somewhere." He motions out amongst the crowd. "The lass has been traveling with me for a bit. Fancies a life as a performer." He smiles then, "I'm a fair bit protective of the two of them, Xander and Uta, but they're both the sort that tend to find themselves in trouble more often than not."

Wynfei shakes his head, "No I don't, though I do like to talk to people and try to help where I can." Pushing the bowl away from him, Wynfei turns to look at Ry. "Crap I forgot." he laughs. "My name is Wynfei, nice to formally meet you Rylen." he says offering his hand to the man.

"I respect that." he says as Ry tells him he fights when there is a reason to. "I do as well, but right now I want to test myself against others."

As Ry explains about Uta and Xander, he laughs. "Uta is awesome and a damn good fighter. I do hope she is here, can hang out with her and such before I have to fight." he says. He rubs the back of his head a little, "Thouhg I may lose, but hey you learn from winning and losing so it's a win/win."

"Well, my main 'job' here in Yamato is acting as a Mentor to the new players in Crescent Moon." Rylen explains, "So helping is something that's key to what I do." His expression remains a wry grin, "Unfortunately, most of them can't repay me with room and board, and I wouldn't ask them to." He shrugs his bare shoulders, then clasps Wynfei's hand firmly with his own. "It's a pleasure, Wynfei."

Then, with the other hand, he downs the last of the tea, setting the cup down and giving a nod to the owner of the food stall. Then, he pushes himself up, stretching his arms out above his head. "Well, she's been training her performance skills here with the group as of late. So I'm sure you're bound to find her if you take a look around." He winks then, "And possibly lend some coin to a few other acts along the way?"

The thought of how this Cait Sith views fights is met with a nod and a thoughtful expression. Something in his eyes that suggests that not every fight can be turned into a positive outcome. "I wish I could say that it worked that way for me, but the last time I got into a spar, I think it did more harm than good." His expression is rueful. "Though, I guess the jury is out on that one." He never did quite know where he stood with Xander.

"Anyways, I need to get back to the rounds. You enjoy your food. Maybe I'll catch your fight at the Arena." The shirtless showman bows elaborately before Wynfei, and then gives him a wave before he wanders off into the gathered crowd of people.
