Peko Ranch Grand Opening

The Quick-Feather Peko Ranch is having their grand opening. Tour the grounds, meet some of the pekos for sale, take a ride around the practice track, or simply mooch free food and drink that will be on offer.

Scene type: Casual/Social

Rylen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

The Quick-Feather Peko Ranch has been decorated with lights, festive music leading the arrivals towards the barnyard. Despite the animals present, there is a relatively clean smell of fresh hay and the nearby cooking of food. Some of the local hunters have brought a variety of wild game which is being cooked and served up to visitors. Peko is distinctly NOT on the menu, so stop asking.

Rylen stands near the entrance, offering his usual charming smiles as he welcomes people inside. "Welcome, welcome! Come on forward. Welcome to Quick-Feather. Yamato's newest source for mounts and mount trainking!"

His own personal peko is standing nearby, flapping tiny wings and making a squawking sound. In the yards, there are others milling about, some of them curious about the visitors. They sneak a bit closer to the fencing to have a look at what all the fuss is about. As trained mounts, none of this seems to phase most of the pekos.
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade has come to the ranch she helped a bit to work on. The construction, mostly, she's not very animal-oriented. That's one of the things she's hoping to correct, in fact, and she smiles to Rylen, "Thanks for having us over. I'm pretty interested to see what's going on." She will take a bit of the game being served up, and ..." she looks around, is there something to drink?

"I don't know much about the riding or ranching, as you know," she says with a chuckle. From their work on the ranch, Rylen will know she's not much use with animals, apart from maybe catching them as food, which she avoids mentioning. He seems sensitive about it. "So will you be offering training?"
Merek
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Merek of course would come by to check in on what the place was all about. He wears his usual dark attire, with a scarf adjusted about it, seeming to watch the place. He then nods a bit to Rylen, and to anyone else he might know, while he thinks a little bit to himself while in thought.
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen was happy to help out with the ranch also somehow? Gwen has been pried off her work at the moment. Somehow this has happened and here she is what's even more so she's in a sundress hat and all. She's chanced with the menu shortly after she arrived. It had taken Uther and Morri barring her from working physically to keep her from working on her project today. So here she is she seems to be in good spirits if a little distracted by all this.

"Looks like this has turned out pretty good!"

She is heading for the food too.
Rylen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

"Ahh, Lady Goldenblade." Rylen bows to the young woman and then returns her smile. "Your help was so much appreciated. By all means, feel free to see the result of your handiwork." He motions her forward, "We will be offering training. I asked Otto for a few of his more docile pekos to work with those who aren't familiar with mounts."

Raising a hand, Rylen welcomes Merek as well. "There's food and drinks in the back. Xander wouldn't have let me get away with not having some good booze on hand." He chuckles, though the Salamander seems to be busy elsewhere at the moment.

"Gwen!" The Pooka calls out, "Good to see you. Uta was telling me you'd been a bit busy with some secret project of yours. Enough so that you had the poor Spriggan worried." He grins, "Weeks of sweat and effort, but I'm happy enough. Should help some of our newer players in Crescent Moon with their training and with having someplace to work."
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade looks pleased at the mention that training is available, and she nods her head to Rylen. "Sign me up," she agrees, though she nods about starting on a docile mount. "Yes, please! No jousting for me just yet. That'll be when I come back for the advanced course."

She wonders, "Do you use saddles with them? Are they made already? Or it might be easier if you had something like a chariot, then you could just stand in it. But I guess with terrain and ruins and such, chariots might not be practical." She smiles to Merek, commenting dryly, "Long time no see." Gwen gets a wave, also, and a wide smile.
Reika
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Reika arrives a bit later compared to the rest, but she heard of the opening, and riding mounts seems fun, and useful really! In game terms, having a mount is usually a vehicle after all, something to speed up traveling. Whether or not they can have their own is still to determine, but at least she can get the skill to do it first anyway.

She hmms as she walks toward the fencing first, looking over it at the Pekos. She smiles, and then walks along the fence toward the rest of the people, likely the trainers as well "Ohayo~ You offer riding classes then?"
Rylen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

"I'll make sure you're on the roster for the first set of lessons, though it may be a few days. I'm planning on heading up the tower tomorrow to join with those preparing to assault the third floor boss." Rylen grins, "Going to try my Earth magic against a real challenge." Oh, he likely had other reasons for a sudden interest in the tower, but those go unsaid.

"There are peko carts, but that's more for moving goods rather than people. But yes, we have saddles." He motions towards the Main House which acts as a store front for the ranch.

As Reika approaches, one of the pekos seems to take an interest in her, walking up to the fencing. It follows her even as she walks, bobbing its head back and forth as it goes. Rylen offers a grin in her direction, "We will be, yes. The hope is to get everyone at least some basic riding skill so they can utilize pekos when on the island. It should make travel a lot easier."
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen says "Hello Rylen and Uta's been that worried about me? I'm not working that hard really." She's really into it and yes she is working that hard. It's a good thing she was kicked out there. "Yes it it whould make tranist now if we could find someone whose into animal breeding and hire them on full time." There were certain games that often needed people to handle all the breeding of animal almost at the cost of their own well being. Freaking dinosaur surival games in the end.

"Aye and speed up travel times too, We should also talk to the Hunter Guild too to see if they need mounts."
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade ehs to Rylen, "They're on the third floor boss already? I was just on with the second floor boss, it seems like not that long ago. Can anyone volunteer? I'd like to try to help again, though someone posted a warning about it that I didn't quite understand." She can only shrug about magic. The whole idea of magic confuses her, even when it's her doing it.

She nods about the carts and saddles, "That's good. I'm definitely interested." As Gwen mentions travel times, she agrees, "Mounted travel plays a surprisingly large role in warfare, traditionally."
Reika
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Reika smiles to the Peko following her, and extends a hand to pet the feathers on its forehead "You're a cute and friendly one aren't you~" She nods to Rylen with a smile "Well count me in, maybe with this flelow here. He seems to like me." She giggles softly. "I agree with that having some riding skills can be useful, if only to travel quicker." She is a Messenger after all, so rapidity it a plus.
Rylen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

"Apparently, they is under the impression that you're not eating unless someone feeds you, and that you aren't acting as your usual, fashion-forward self." Rylen raises his eyebrows, though the smile remains, "I'll make sure to let them know that you visited, it might set their mind at ease." He seems curious, though, "If there is anything wrong, though, you know you can come to us, right?" He asks, unsure if her strange behavior is what Att Syne had spoken about, or not.

The Peko leans in to the patting from Reika, which seems to come as no surprise to Rylen, "That's one of the ones Otto sent me. Apparently he's pretty friendly. Had a long trip from the Peko Army territory, so he's probably not gotten nearly as much attention as usual." The bird squawks, though it is a tone or two lower than what is used by Rylen's own bird. This peko has bass.

Turning to Goldenblade, Rylen strokes at his chin, considering, "Well, I've heard Gwen often acts as tank, and I've been aiding in intel gathering, so I don't see them having any problem with others from our guild participating." He shrugs, "Tag along with me, if you want. I'll vouch for you." His mouth curves back into a grin, "Ahh, that would be the intel drop from our dear Lady Theodore. The boss is a treant. Large, ancient tree. Weak to fire. Possibly infested with some kind of fugal core that we suspect might be under ground."
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade hrms, nods about the info about the suspected enemy being weak to fire. "I'm good with fire," she insists. "I'm trying to get better with it, though it's just something I'm working on, for the moment. A kind of synergy I'm working out with my attacks. I'm still kind of puzzled about attacks with names and special combinations. My kids were too old to really get into video games. Their kids did, but it didn't really impact me, I think. My son took karate, but high kick, low kick, kidney punch, that's all straightforward. This business with special 'Dancing Sun', 'Flying Moon' names for attacks is strange to me."

She offers a shrug. "I go with it, of course. It just seems strange to me. I mean, it works. I use attacks, and flame comes out of my blade sometimes. That's as real as any of this..." She gestures out at the world in general. "It's just weird."
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen says "They are overplaying it." They are not overplaying it at all, to be honest. Gwen will deny like she's a river in Egypt over it, though. She thinks for a moment and says "That should do, I will call for help if I need it. Don't worry." She will now go for the food as she looks to Goldenblade as they open up a bit about kids. "That would be things like Wuxia movies out of Hong Kong and the like. I can get that, Goldenblade. I'm titanic here myself in terms of height."
Reika
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Reika giggles softly "Well if he's this time, he's going to get plenty of affection from me at least." She keeps petting its feathers nicely, playfully even, as the Peko seems unwillingly to move away just yet. It s fine with her at least. She nods to what info Rylen is offering, as she was there too, although she mostly kept quiet. "It sounds like it's going to be a challenge, but nothing we can't handle as I group, I would think."
Rylen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

One white eyebrow lifts as Rylen takes in the comments from Goldenblade. It may be the first time that he really put together the fact that she might be older than she appears. Then again, many people are not exactly what they seem in this place. So, he just clears his throat and nods, "Not everyone names their attacks. I primarily utilize a form of Hung Ga martial arts combined with earth magic." He chuckles, "Though I have to keep practicing if I don't want to fall behind. I'm afraid most of the Scale Emblem fighters have more practical experience."

For Gwen, well, he just eyes her for a moment before nodding, "As you say, lass. Just make sure you're taking care of yourself. You're important to people, both within the guild and without." Sometimes, people need reminding of that.

Stepping a bit closer to Reika, he explains, "I'm actually hoping that his tame nature breeds true. I got permission from Otto to do some peko breeding at the ranch. He's normally... very reserved with letting his bloodlines extend beyond those born in the Peko Army lands." Before the founding of the ranch, it had been relatively hard to get a peko of that kind of quality on the Isle of Beginnings, "I hope to give people the chance to raise their own pekos here. Train them from hatchlings. Form strong bonds like I have with Moko."
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade hrms about Hong Kong movies, and admits, "I've seen Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan's older stuff, but there wasn't any magic in those. Just determination and grit. In insane amounts, to be honest. The outtakes at the end of Jackie Chan's movies tell a story and no mistake." She hrms, reluctantly admits, "I guess I've seen previews and adds for the more magical types of movies, but they never really interested me. But they had fellows shooting fire from their fists and flying and such."

She nods about Gwen being a tank, and says to her, with a tone of adiration, "On the second floor boss, I remember, you were right in the thickest of the fighting. I know that means you must be amazingly tough."

Goldenblade nods to Rylen abut tagging along. "If I won't be too much trouble, I'd be happy to. Hopefully I can contribute. I've been working on the fire business." She catches his eyebrow lift and laughs. "Named attacks or not, there's still more magic here that I'm used to at home. It's something I'm adjusting to, and trying to work out how to use."
Rylen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Rylen laughs gently, though it's clear that he's more amused than anything else. "From what I've seen of this game, it pretty much is what you make of it. Some people are hard-core into the sword and board style of fighting, while others prefer to delve into creating their own sort of mix of combat and elemental magic." He explains, "Seems to me, we're only limited by our imagination and capability to work at developing something new."

Then again, the Pooka is a performer. For him, everything is about imagination, creativity, performance. Building something new out of the world around him.

"Aye, lass. You're more than welcome to join me when Xander and I head out. That is, if Scale Emblem doesn't send him on ahead as a forward guard. He was supposed to be here tonight, but alas..." He rolls his eyes, "They had to all him away for business. Figured I'd at least be able to share the occassion with one of my best mates, but... duty calls."

That said, Rylen raises his arms, calling out to the rest of the crowd, "Feel free to explore the grounds. Meet the pekos. Just don't try to feed them alcohol, they don't appreciate it." He smirks.

"If you'll excuse me, I have other guests to meet and greet. Hopefully I'll see you all soon enough." The showman excuses himself.
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen mutters something about she can't wait till she can Grand Cross again. She looks over ot Goldenblade.

"Nearly supernatural levels of skill there with those two. I am a tank it's my job to keep the monsters on me and not on the rest of the party. It's what I do you know? Aside from make people look good and we still need to get you some changes of clothes."
Reika
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Reika nods at Rylen's explanation "I understand, I will look forward to see if the baby Pekos are all cute and friendly like the mommy then." She smiles, patting the Peko's head and beak lightly "You're a good birdie, you'll make some good babies will you?"

She looks to the others, nodding "Gwen is a strong tank, she knows her job. I've seen her fight many times. Then it's our job to support her and break down the lines before they overwhelm her."
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade's cheeks go red as Gwen mentions getting her a change of clothes. She's been dodging that for weeks now, and she essays a weak, "It's not -that- important," but she doesn't really expect to deflect Gwen with that. "Supernatural levels of skill with what?" she wonders, having lost track of that part of the conversation. She does nod agreement with Reika about Gwen being a strong tank. Much tougher than she is.
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen looks over to Goldenblade for a moment. "Martial arts when it comes to Bruce, and stunts when it comes to Jackie."

She notes with a lopsided grin at Goldenblade. "So how are you holding up with everything? Leveling all right? Any issues with gear?"
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade nods slowly. "Jackie was awesome in fights, too, though. Drunken Master was basically a 2-hour long fight, that changed out participants on occasion. The plot gets slipped in edgewise." She grins. "That -was- a good movie, though. It's what I think of when I think of action, so I'm wrapping my head around what you guys have here."

As far as holding up, she shrugs, "I guess I'm doing as well as I can. Not too many levels, nor gear. But I'm working on making some. Sort of. My contact sort of dried up. I helped him make a special grade of steel, and I was expecting to get some of what he made, or at least learn to make it. But he's vanished and I have no way to find him, and I'm just hoping he turns back up and I can learn the technique. I didn't get anything from helping with the project." She grumbles at that.
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen says "So long as you walked away from it having enjoyed it, that's the point right? Wait would that contact by Kaydon by any chance?" She asks with an interesting look on her face. She seems to be curious on who Goldenblade is talking about. Meanwhile, she'll get some food and gobble it down while she waits on an answer.
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade shrugs about having enjoyed it. "Enjoting it wasn't really the point, was the thing. It was work, and ... well, I guess I think differently about it after 30-some years of bricklaying. I was hoping to get sometning out of it, if only a technique I could do something with." She hrms, nods, "Kaydon, yeah. Do you know him?"
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen says "Yes we partied a lot before we got stuck here and I helped back the project. I have been meaning to hit him up. He likely just forgot or has been pulled into guild affairs pop him a message if you have him friened. If not I can pass something on for you."
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade is so clueless with the interface. She shrugs about having him friended. "I ... uh, probably do, but I can never tell. If you can ping him, since you were going to talk to him anyhow?" She nods about him having forgotten, agreeing, "Probably. I haven't gotten any ill intent from anyone yet, despite a lot of dire warnings. So, yeah, he probably got busy with stuff. I guess everyone's got their own projects."
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen says "A lot of crafters have been getyting hyperfocued on projects." Gwen is one of them, but she will not admit to this. "I'll give you a rundown on how to use the system for friending people and messaging them if you like later?"
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade sort of got hyper focused, and she's done it again, kind of, with her own personal project, so she nods in understanding. "Everyone wants to get their own advantages squared away in this new world that we're all stuck in," she agrees. As far as the rundown, she says guiltily, "I'm drinking from the firehose, is the problem, trying to take in everything at once. As you can imagine, I'm not getting it all down. If you can give me a rundown, that'd be great, but please don't take offense if I ask again in a week. I'm learning too many new things all at once, is the problem."
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen says "Information overload, I get it. That's why the guild is here." Gwen notes with a bit of a grin. "Well the first thing you need to know is you need to be in line of sight of the person to friend them you can't do it across the game. So you have to have met up with them to do it. Then talking to them it just picking the option from the menu and using it much like you use the primary chimlink." She'll also go on into some of the more finer details as well.
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade needs a reminder on the chimlink, too. It so rarely comes up, and she forgets how to use it. "Thanks," she says. "I think I can do the chimlink, and the talking direct to friends. She nods and listens intently as Gwen briefs her.
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen says "Glad to help and don't forget other than local chimlink? It's off line when you are in combat." She notes and she wonders if they can find a way to work with that for battle reports. That will be something for later as the project looms in her mind. "I'm glad to help but I should get moving soon I need to get back to work and check keep my parents. Out of trouble..."
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade ohs, nods. "I probably ought to sleep, myself," she admits. "I feel younger here than I have in years, but there's limits." She laughs, nods about chimlink not working in combat. "Though when I'm in combat, I'm usually waaay to busy to worry about fumbling around with that." And fumbling around is absolutely how she uses the chimlink normally.
Gwen
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Gwen says "Yeah take care of yourself we may be demi gods physically but our minds are unchanged." She'll grab some more food for the road before she'll head off waving to Goldenblade as she goes.
Goldenblade
Quick-Feather Peko Ranch - Barnyard

Goldenblade waves, grabs a bit for the road, and will head out also. "Take care," she says, smirking about demigods.
