Academy Planning

Goldenblade is hanging around the woods a short ways outside the Peko Ranch and Marina areas, with what looks like some sort of easel and ... possibly makeshift surveying equipment. She has small stakes in the ground with brightly colored rags tied to the tips, and is using a bit of finely knapped charcoal to mark the scrap on the easel as she plans out her Academy grounds.

The sound of boots walking the path could be heard, followed by a cracking of a branch. Whoever it was , wasn't worried about going unseen whihc of course must mean it was someone who's presence wanted to be known. A moment longer and Setsuna would turn the corner. The human was whistling a tune and seemed to be coming from the Peko ranch. It had been a good couple of days overall that was for sure. The man would eventually notice the artist , painting a building that isn't there and just casually stand behind and to the side to watch for a moment or three.

The whistling is more of a warning than the footfalls, but either way, Goldenblade looks up, and calls a greeting as she spots Setsuna arriving. "Hello," she calls out, and looks over her drawing, but it seems it's in a place she can pause, so she'll set her charcoal on the easel tray and turn, rolling her shoulder and calling out, "What's new?" She'll take a few steps away from the easel, and warn Setsuna, "Mind the markers," pointing to a few of the ground stakes that have strings tied between them. "Doing some planning," she explains.

Setsuna looks at the charcoal sketches and then the empty spot and then back to the empty spot. "Thats good, otherwise I would have thought you were seeing things. I don't recommend that" He paces slowly in an arc as if trying to look at the plans and visualize the plans in the spot ahead. " So when do you hope to break ground?" The question of newness being skipped for now, the academy was much more interesting.

Hisame has made her way out of whatever seclusion she's been on, opting to replenish supplies and maybe make a bit of profit if she can get enough supplies. It's why she's crouched out in the field of flowers, carefully cutting bits and bobs, trying to take choice bits, the usual sort of thing. The whistling gets her attention, mostly noted by her wings flitting up, followed soon by her head lifting. Brushing herself off, Hisame makes her way over to the other two, curious what others are doing out here and... well, spotting the surveying. She does step around the posts at least. "Yo." She offers simply along with a wave.

Goldenblade looks up as Hisame makes her presence known as well. "Hello!" she calls with a smile, and says to Setsuna, "This is ... well, stage two, I guess. The Academy will initially be just a couple buildings in-town, I think, but we will be expanding to our own grounds in the fullness of time." She explains, "The plan's a bit grandiose, I expect, to be able to field a full university-type place, and I'm still not sure how much Lander participation we'll be getting. But I'm hoping land management-type courses will attract a few of the noble and landowner types, and maybe that prestige will draw in a few of the merchant-class types. Hoping to teach everything, though. If we can teach them cooking, for instance, then you can buy cooked food from vendors. That'd be pretty cool, huh?" She adds, to Setsuna, "Our /initial/ opening should be in a week."

Setsuna keeps pacing in an arc around the picture back and forth for a moment before a new voice hits his ears and he looks up. "Hello there." He stares for a moment as he tries to recall if they had met before, and decides to guess no. "Setsuna, pleasure to meet you miss. " At hearing the initial opening is in a week he looks impressed. " Wow , I didn't expect that. I mean we talked a few weeks back and it was like not even started." He was impressed. Then e wheels turn and he adds, " You know if you are looking for support for phase 2, strike a deal with the hunter guild. A place to train more hunters. They can't turn it down."

Hisame raises an eyebrow briefly at the mention of a full on academy. "Do you have your teachers lined up already? Or is this... something of a uh, very long term goal?" Then she pauses and adds, "Sorry for intruding. Probably- shouldn't just jump in like that. Hi. I'm Hisame." As she says her name in reply to Setsuna introducing herself. Resting back on her heels, hands at her hips, she looks the roped out area over and asks, "If it's for hunters- a guild thing maybe?"

Goldenblade nods to Setsuna about a deal with the Hunters' Guild. "That's a possibility. I've found that my own skills have holes, and so I imagine other players are finding the same. Or .. maybe I'm the only one, I don't know?" She shrugs. "This game is confusing enough, for me. It's not much like real life, as much as it seems to be. Or maybe I'm just concentrating on the differences?" She shrugs, "It -is- quite a good game, and it does do a lot. But then there's a piece missing and I get confused."

She smiles to Hisame, and says, "Call me Goldenblade," because her full name is too long and complicated, and ... anyhow, "I think we ran a duty together, some time back? But no, I don't have any teachers yet, I was hoping to get buildings and facilities lined up first. I'll be one teacher, I think, I've done enough workplace training that I ought to be able to ... " She considers, "But then, a lot of what I know doesn't work here. And a bit of what I know ... I think I learned here, but I'm not clear on how."

Setsuna shakes his head, " I think thats part of the game, we all need to rely on each other to get anywhere." The human finally just sits in the dirt, "The other option is you could try to talk to someone in charge of the lander military. See if you could leverage them to help train them. You may have to prove yourself first to do that." He shrugs his shoulders ands continues to look at the lot before rolling it to the side and putting Hisame in his view, "It's a pleasure to meet you. Don't worry bout intruding, I intruded on are academy headmistress first. I think that allows others to intrude without the need to apologize." He looks forward again and stares at the building site still as he just watches it.

Hisame tilts her head lightly to the side, hand on chin as she considers. "I mean of course we have to rely on eachother, kinda the point of the genre. Just made sense to me that being stuck here translated the same way." She tilts her head the other way adding simply, "I was an artist outside. I can doodle here, bu tit's nott really useful-" she gestures to the school, "Though you could probably peddle that outside influence well enough. think outside of the box sort'a thing." She then hesitates and adds, "Pretty sure we did. It's been a while and I'm awful with names."

Goldenblade nods to Setsuna about it being part of the game. "That much is like real life," she agrees, about having to work with others to achieve a goal. As for the Lander military, she says, "I don't know that they're really as good as our real life military folks, in terms of logistics and organization. In real life, that's a big part of training. Here, I think it's something they eventually realize is important, but never focus on. The militaries of the various states sometimes deliberately don't classroom-train their members. That way, I guess, they keep membership within a specific class, and they one-on-one train their selected members. Or so I'm told."

She smiles to Hisame about it having been a while, and admits, "I'm bad with names, too. It comes from meeting everyone all in one go and having a million details to keep straight." She hrms about artistry, and wonders, "Are you no good here as an artist? Or just not as good as you were outside. Myself, I couldn't draw a flower or a grunty, but I can do well enough for blueprints and design drawings."

Setsuna looks at the pair and nods. "You are not wrong, in real life we had to rely on each other. So only makes sense wedo it here too. Sometimes you get all these magic powers and you forget such things. " He stands and yawns a little as he looks at Hisame interested in the answer to GoldenBlades comment before making his own. "Sadly most my real life skills would at minimum require a command prompt. Maybe a keyboard. You know those sort of things that don't exist in monster and fantasy."

Setsuna stands up from his spot on the ground and stretches, "Anyways I will leave you two, to continue talking about life I have to be on my way." With that he resumes his whistling and his walking.

Hisame tilts her head and says flatly, "The JSDF trains with others, but they don't have much practical experience. I'd assume you could drill up anyone into a decent military." she pauses and adds simply, "I worked on a uh, series before this that kind of required that research."

To Setsuna, she replies, "I mean I bet we could figure out a way to get a command prompt open. There's all sorts of weird bits here. Maybe poke around enough at the edges. If that uh, makes sense."

Goldenblade sighs about magic powers, and says, "There's a reason wizards and things were always villains in traditional stories with magic. Merlin mainly gave advice, and usually when he used his magic powers, he regretted it. The moral of those stories is to rely on your own skills and capabilities. But the newer stories have all this magic, and it's a crutch, just POOF, and problem solved, and people don't know how to /do/ things." She shrugs, wonders to Setsuna, "So you were like a computer programmer or something? I was a bricklayer, so..." That may explain her focus on building.

She wonders to Setsuna, "You know actual digital logic type stuff, though? The first computers used cams and levers and gears, and I'd bet we could build stuff like that here." But she'll have to ask him again later as he's got to go, and she waves farewell. She arches a brow at Hisame as she menions working with JSDF. "Ah, that's good, though. Warfare's different here than in real life, so it's not the specific lessons we're looking for. But the ways of thinking. Sure, you can deploy a C-141 and get tanks anywhere in the world. But ... the things we need to know here are sailing times and marching distances, and how many defenders do we need to stop an army of person-sized giant ants from overrunning a village."

Hisame drums her fingers against one of her pouches and holds a finger up, "It depends on the culture and what they're doing too. Some work to counter the worst things out there, but still require practice and skill. It's not just a gimme." Stretching out after, she stifles a yawn and then gives the other woman a curious look, "A bricklayer?"

She points to the school, or where it'll be at least and says, "It's not about the equipment, it's about the drills. It's why when you're drawing soldiers they're supposed to have a different bearing. It's kinda neat, no matter the country you can see it."

Goldenblade hrms about drawing soldiers, then ohs, recalling what she'd said earlier about her profession. "I see. Yes, that makes sense." She smirks at Hisame's surprise at the bricklayer comment. "Yeah, they didn't have computers when I was growing up," she says with a chuckle. "We had to find our own amusements and there was a lot of construction going on then, so bricklaying was solid work. With a future and good job prospects for the future, I mean. Not as glamorous as your executive stuff, or as the white-collar paper-pushers in management. But you actually got to see a completed product when you were done, that you could point to, and say, 'I built that'."

Hisame shrugs and says, "A job's a job. You've never felt insignificant until you've been buried under a byline's byline as a supporting artist." She shrugs and smiles, "I enjoyed the practice, but it kind of sucks not being recognized at comikets without like... well. I usually didn't. Whatever, ayway. It is a good feeling doing the necessary work at the same time, even if it's not glamorous."
Goldenblade

Goldenblade smirks about recognition. "Be glad you get anything. There's nothing on a building's cornerstone about the ones who built it. Just the architect, if they're lucky, and who paid for it. For bricklayers, you just have to know." She shrugs. "Anyhow, hopefully we'll come up with things to teach. I plan to teach all of the skills I've developed here, though I don't know if anyone will want to learn. But that's my plan."
Hisame

Hisame gestures to the building area, "Do you know how to make the bricks? That kind of stuff might go a long way in a middle ages society. It might help out you know?" She stretches again and finds something to lean against, "Still, I'm curious to see what happens. I... should maybe get around to starting my idea. I want to do a postal service."
Goldenblade
Overworld - 12 - 0 - 0

Goldenblade nods about making bricks. "It's basically just baking clay," she explains. "You dry them out, then bake them in an oven. They don't have most of that here, but building is building, regardless of the materials. A huge oven is probably a ways in the future, but a brickworks would probably go a long way." She hrms about a postal service, and she wonders, "Would you have dedicated carriers, or just offer quests like 'deliver this to person' and the reward is the price of the postage?"
