Duelist's League: Setsuna vs Kauchemar

Two masters of Darkness and Summons throwdown for a league match. Be there or be square. But don't be dead, there will likely be enough of that on the field.

Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Considering the nature of the two Duelist League members about to face off it should be little surprise that a cemetary was chosen as the venue for the day. This would be one of those few times that such a location doesn't give one or the other combatant an advantage considering they both have command of the undead. Besides, the spirits of warriors past might enjoy some entertainment in their eternal afterlife! More their style than some stuffy funeral ceremony!

Amongst the many peaks and towers of Dun Loireag it is not hard to find such a place, as one of the plateaus have been dedicated to such. Like Dominion's more Oriental influenced culture it is more a collection of memorials for giving prayers and tributes than graves and tombstones, but the atmosphere is still quite the same -- Somber and Ominous.

Against one of the memorials Kauchemar leans waiting, rubbing a rag over the blade of her sword while the already polished shield rests against the marker. She's found that the Binders possessing the weapons respond to being shined and cleaned much like a creature might take a fondness to being brushed. So the little grooming session pre-battle while hopefully ensure the spirits remain obedient.
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Up the winding past, to the top of the plateua of the dead , is the path that Setsuna has traveled for todays duel. Approaching his opponent and notices the focus on the weapon cleaning. Impishly grinning the human cups his hands around his mouth and trying to emulate a wailing ghost like voice, "Kaaaauuuuchmer~ , this is the spirit of your pony ancestors telling you to fooorfeit~." Setsuna runs forward, looking around, and trying to act spooked. "Damn did you hear that? Those spirits are like saying you should just throw in the sword. I mean are you going to do it?" Despite his best attempt, he still wears a grin that an imp would be jealous of.
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

An ear twitches at the 'ghostly' call, but that's all the response the Nightmare gives until Setsuna actually runs in and tries to act spooked. When he's certainly the last person that would be spooked by any such thing. "Oh Setsuna. You should consider your words more carefully." It sounds almost like a threat. Save until Kauchemar flicks the rag away and sweeps out her arm. Letting go of the sword as she does so, yet it follows the motion of her gesture, to float just beyond her fingertips pointed towards the Necromancer, a lopsided grin curling her lips. "I can make 'throwing in the sword' a lot more gruesome than you're thinking~" Like throwing it into your ribs. If that sort of injury was actually rendered, that is.

She snaps the fingers of her other hand, and the shield rolls itself away from the memorial marker and floats up to hover near her side. "I appreciate the attempt at mischevious levity though."
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Setsuna smiles and paces through the memorials for a moment looking fora starting spot, his body language conveying he is not ready yet as he shows his back several times. " I could always try to be more serious and grim in the matter, scowling and just attacking... " He stops and looks at one of the memorials tilting his head, "Jonly Bonly?" Shaking his head he keeps walking till he gets to a spot he deems appropriate and turning back to Kauchemar, "Ok I am ready when you are."
Uta
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Uta stands in front of two round stones, one of them with a pair of felt ears glued to it, and the other with a wizard's hat. Two dots as eyes and a simple sideways 'D' for a smile are etched on them.

"I will never forget you, Mizuki Jr. and Neville Blobbottom!", she says, kowtowing in a way that is proper for Honoring the Lost. "Once again, I come here to commemorate the time I met you, and then we parted. It is better to have loved and lost, than the friends you have made along the wa- wait, no. It wasn't like that. How-"

There is a loud exchange of words, and Uta turns to look at the source of it. Well, how convenient. It seems like Uta is within spectating distance of the match. "...oh, cool," she says, approaching. "Seems like it's a duelist league match. I wonder if I'm fighting today. It'd be cool if I was. So I could cheer on myself. She looks one way. "Oh, it's Kauch! Hi Kauch!" She looks the other way. "...and Setsuna. Hi Setsuna!", she waves to both.
Sunshine
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Between a necromancer and a summoner, it seems as though there will be precious little in the way of peace for the dead this day. Perhaps those spirits may indeed get some enjoyment--but if there will be any reverence here this day, it won't be from the blond-haired human. Sat upon one monument, Sunshine's guitar is slung around his back. His long hair obscures the first name of whoever the monument memorializes, revealing only 'Grabahan.'

There won't be any songs from the Charlatan today. No, having recently signed on with Plant Hwyaden, he's noticed he's not the only bard among them--and being passionate about music, he's decided to come and see for himself what Kauchemar's influences may be. Even if it's something unfamiliar, he might still find it enjoyable.

"Howdy, guildie, Setsuna," he says, crossing his legs and giving a carefree kind of two-finger salute. He politely nods to Uta, as well.
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

"Ugh, pleeeeease, no. There's enough players who think 'necromancer' means they have to be all dark goth and edgelordy." Kauchemar shakes her head just enough to give her glam rocker mane a dramatic hairflip away from her eyes. "So lets raise the curtain on this show, shall we?~" Her tail flicks a few times as she taps a hoof, doing a 'count the beats' waggle gesture with one finger. Interestingly the Binder Sword doesn't strike, but tilts itself upright to start rocking back and forth almost like the arm of a metronome.

" o/~ I play where the darker kids play. I'm the one that goes out when you end your day.
I dance where the darker crowds dance, in the pitch black clubs in a post-hyp trance.
I see things the darker kids see, now you wouldn't believe what has happened to me.
I've been to the backside of Hell, I've played with their fears and enjoyed it well o/~ "

And after the little entrance tune to get herself pumped up Kauchemar goes from singing to opening her maw wide and unleashing a deafening whail upon her opponent!
Uta
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Uta notices this new person nodding politely to her, and equally as politely, she bows back to him. "Oh, good day, good Sir!" Returning to rise after her bow, she continues, "I am Uta Furore, Musical Kung-Fu Nurse. At your service."

She points at the Nightmare Were Fang and continues, "That one is Kauchemar. She's cool. She keeps me updated on everything I should be scared of. Great service. If it weren't for her, I'd be blithely walking into the arms of my killers. But now, thanks for her, I live in constant fear. Well, when i /remember/ to fear. I have so many things to take care of that being terrified at the ominousness of Those Who Want To Take My Life kind of slips off my mind occasionally." She then points at the other duelist. "And that is Setsuna. Just don't let him violate your personal space and you should be fine.
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

The necromancer looks over to the spectators and tips an imaginary hat before shouting to Uta, "BOOP!" He then laughs allowed before turning back to the equine singer and informs her that he is ready, "Show me how you fight soul singer!" The necromancer shouts as the duel begins and he gets ready for whatever is coming. The singing is a sign that something is coming and Setsuna prepares as best as he can. "I'm sure you are aware changing the air pressure , can change your vocals." His staff spinning produces a gust of wind to shield him from whatever is coming before he kneels and says, "Specters of the viper, heed my call and strike." A ghostly viper would begin to seek the new target of Kauchemar.
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

That is a smart defense against that sort of attack, though seeing it actually makes Kauchemar smirk a bit. "You're more clever than you let on sometimes. Good, good. It would be a shame if you held back. But it just means I need to switch tracks."

A motion of the arm brings her Binder Shield to ready, but in a twist it gets sent spinning through the air. "Among these graves and amongst these walls, spirits rise and DARKNESS FALLS", chants the Nightmare, her voice taking on a demonic reverb for the final words. At the same time the shield rings around Setsuna, releasing several ghostly vapors from its form as it boomerangs back to it's master. "Embers and ash, smoke and choke!" quickly follows as she slams a hoof into the ground and sending a shimmer of heat up around herself. The viper succeeds in chomping on her shin, but it goes up in flames before it can do more than inject it's venom, which sends several smoldering embers flying back towards Setsuna.

And -then- finally comes the actual attack, as Kauchemar catcalls "I warned you about how you phrase things," teasingly, before 'throwing' her haunted sword to take several darkness-embued swipes at him.

Seems like part of her style is simply making her opponent have to keep track of a lot of things at once, in hoping they get overwhelmed.
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

The necromancer watches as the darkness begins to engross the battlefield however Setsuna smiles as he takes the darkness around him and crafts it into an aura around him. Using the darkness he raises his arms to protect himself from the flying blades , darkness upon darkness clashing as only the blade barely knicks into his arms. Setsuna smiles as his eyes begin to glow , channeling the magic around him. " Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, rise up my warriors. I call you back into service. " From the base of the memorials the skeleton warriors arise, their empty eye sockets glowing like Setsuna's as they charge in to strike the singer.
Uta
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Uta goes all red in the face at Setsuna's "BOOP!" directed at her. "WHY YOU!", she bursts out, and begins rolling up her sleeves as she starts towards Setsuna. A few steps, and manages to get a grip on herself. "No, no, Uta. Don't do that. It's an official match. You'd interfere with the official scoring and that is not sportsmanlike. No, revenge is a dish better served cold. And possibly menu-crafted, to add the soggy crackeriness on top."
Sunshine
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

"Reno Sunshine," he conversationally drawls, adding with a smile, "Just 'Sunshine' 's fine." He doesn't give his class, but she can probably guess it's something involving bardic magic, given that fancy green acoustic guitar slung 'round his back. As she points, he nods, his gaze following her finger. "She's actually how come I'm here, matter of fact. Wanted to see what kinda music she makes." That probably settles it. It's... not entirely true, though--having previously partied up with Setsuna, there's more of this necromancy stuff that he'd like to see. It's not an art he's familiar with, and it's better to familiarize oneself with it in a controlled setting like a duel he's not involved in, than to wait until he's squaring up with one.

"...boop?" It must be something between the two of them. Doesn't sound like any fight-starting-chant he's ever heard, anyway. Sunshine flinches as the skeleton warriors rise, worried that he might have to move. Thankfully, Sir Grabahan will not be appearing in this fight.
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Setsuna turns to the ranks of the undead to help him deal with the various effects she's throwing at him Kauchemar grins a bit more mischeviously. "Again, good move, but maybe you should try being less pre-dict-a-ble." She kicks off from the ground, a brief whiff of dust in her wake as she puts a little more distance between herself and Setsuna's summons. The Binder Weapons remain adrift at her sides though, as she reachs back to pull out the bard's trusted friend the lute so she can show the audience just what you can do putting a bard and a summoner together.

" o/~ Show me how to lie, you're getting better all the time... And turning all against the one is an art that's hard to teach
Another clever word.. sets off an unsuspecting herd... And as you step back into line a mob jumps to their feet! o/~ "
Several of her own 'mosh pit' skeletal undead rise from the ground, creating quite the intermingling as they end up clashing with the bone soldiers Setsuna has put onto the field.

"o/~ Now dance, buster, dance! Man, he never had a chance! And no one even knew, it was really only you!
And now you steal awaaay! Take him out todaaaay! Nice work you diiiid... You're gonna go far, kid! o/~" And a hard thrashing of chords at the end as Kauchemar starts weaving some less obvious magic for herself as well.
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

The necromancer shakes his head and scowls a little at being called predictable and yet has to be impressed, not just the singing but by the own summoning of her horde and they begin to clash. "This skeleton on skeleton violence really must stop. " He says as he begins to charge in to the horde, his dark aura protecting him from weaving in and out of the skeleton attacks. Finally he makes it through the field and it looks like Setsuna is about to unleash some powerful up close magic before...he boops Kauchemar on the nose, "1000 boops and a good disguise right?" He grins but is sure Kauchemar will realize the true effect as he begins to duck back around a memorial pillar.
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

*cue audio screech*

Well something close to it as Setsuna prances through the undead melee to *BOOP* her on the nose to interrupt her montage and do things that are arguable left unsaid to the viewing audience. Wiggles her snoot a little. "Oh, you want to play like that, do you?" She holds an arm out to her side, palm up, and utters an summoner's enchantation under her breath. Fumes erupt from her hand with a *POOF* while sigils briefly flicker, and then the acrid smoke clears to reveal the derpy expression of the large slime burbling on her hand.

"NOBODY CAN STOP THE SHMOOZE!" And lobs the slime to engulf Setsuna's head in it's gagging noxious ooze!

At about the same time her ghostly sword lunges forward to jab the necromancer with it's darkened blade.
Sunshine
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Sunshine won't play his guitar--but he will absolutely sing along. Rather than take the melody, he harmonizes with Kauchemar, starting with the next verse. "With a thou-sand lies/and a good dis-guise/hit 'em right between the eyes/hit 'em right between the eyes," adds Sunshine, his voice ringing in dulcet tenor tones at a lower register, bolstering the Were Fang's vocals without stealing the spotlight or singing so loud as to distract. It's not the kind of song you'd normally hear his folksy drawl in, but he makes it work.

The moshing skeletons draw a grin. "All y'all posers get/to the back and sides," he adds, improvising lyrics of his own. "Make an undead circle pit/See 'em slam inside that shit."

"Awww! Ain't that a shame," he says to Uta as Setsuna breaks through the pit to cut off the show. "I'm kinda partial to that song."
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Setsuna doesn't understand, no one appears to like it when he boops their nose. He just doesn't understand it. Seeing the sword chasing him down though he doesn't stand around to using his speed buff to move himself away, however it does make him miss the shmooze. As the slime ends up directly on his face there is a muffle panic spell casting that results in a bright flash of light and then another spell to hide his ghost vipers in the bright light as he hopes to take a moment to get this thing off his face. No witty comments at the moment due to the slime gag.
Uta
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Uta has been trying to forget her woes by harmonizing with the song as well. She doesn't know the lyrics, but she provides some not-too-intrusive oohs-and-aah passages that mesh in nicely.

Uta's reaction when the boop is countered with an engulfing slime is to jump to her feet. "Yes! YES! This is poetic justice! Way to go, Kauch!" She sniffs, almost shedding a tear of joy. "I feel avenged. Thank you."

She turns to Sunshine, and continues, as if nothing had just happened, "...I agree with you. That song was starting to grow on me."

She turns towards the fighting grounds. After some silence, she asks Sunshine, "...just checking... do the rules of the Duelist League allow members of the audience to step into the battlefield to pet the summons? Purely theoretical question..."
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

As she has a momentary reprive while her opponent is dealing with the shmoozy slime the spectacles of supernatural flame ignite around Kauchemar's eyes as she takes a brief glimps into last few moments to figure out what just happened. "Oh.. Oooooooh. Sneakier than I gave you credit for~" She scowls briefly, curling fingers as if grabbing something and flickers of ghastly light can be seen just as a visual cue as she purges the dasterdly trickery from herself. Or at least was in the process of doing so before Sestuna recovers and starts another offensive, cutting her off from completely extracting the curses.

"Good, good!" Once again she ignites her hooves in flame to stop on the summoned serpent, ignoring the venomous ichor that splatters from her doing so for the moment while small embers shoot back at the necromancer as before. "Don't give me the time to completely counteract your trickery."

Then the flames go out, the shimmer in her eyes turning a pale blue as Kauchemar switchs elemental tracks. Summoning glyphs flicker around her, and a sudden unearthly chill, even for a cemetary, falls over the duel. "o/~ Ice maiden of mountains, cold of the north... Lend me your breath and blow blizzard forth! o/~"

Kauchemar throws her arms up dramatically as frosty mist erupts around her, swirling into the air. A pale woman's face can briefly be seen in the mists as, while not an actual Yuki-onna because that's way too powerful of a monster Kauchemar does calls upon the biting bitter cold of the elemental yokai to cast a bombardment of freezing cold wind and snow down upon Setsuna!
Sunshine
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

That's a good question from Uta. IS it against the rules? Hell if he knows--but he's not gonna come right out and say that. It's better to look like you know what you're talking about. Comes with the territory of being a bard, doesn't it? "I wouldn't," he says, affecting the tone of an Expert. He isn't. "They might figure it's 'interference.' Same reason ya wouldn't sit on the table in a mahjong parlor, y'know? But hey--maybe if ya make real nice after the fight, ya might could get some pettin' in." Always one to find the silver lining, him.

He utters a low, impressed whistle, as Kauchemar calls for the spell of freezing cold. "Pretty clever, hidin' them vipers with a flash like that. Wonder how Setsuna's gonna get clear of this one, though--'sat an A-o-E spell she's flingin'?"
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Setsuna takes a moment hiding behind one of the memorials and rips the slime off of his face completely, "OW" He shouts and then throws the slime into the stands as it makes a ploop sound. Rubbing at his face he shakes his head, "Duct tape around here is going to eventually be known as slime tape." Standing up he feels the summons of Kauchemar before he sees it, and shakes his head as he looks at the Equine summoner. " You need to be careful, such attacks can have a way to blow back on you." Using his own magic he tries to counter," I call upon the mother of nature to heed my request, blow back this winter wind with your spring gale." A large gust of wind blows back trying to counter act the icey storm. However their is flaw in his movement, signs he is tirering and hurting. Also the burning sensation from the slime around his mouth.
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Using his own wind magic is a good tactic to at least dull the effect of the frigid winds blasting at him. Meanwhile Kauchemar takes a moment to shake off more of the disruption to her vision. Setsuna uses a lot of the same tricks she does, it seems, if in a different style.

But this is the sort of fight she excels at. Bewilder, disorient, and keep her opponent guessing what's coming next.

She grinds a hoof into the ground in front of herself, a wider stance to brace herself. Tail lashes and ears flick back as the frosty air colliding with Setsuna's own defensive currents starts to dissipitate. The Nightmare Were Fang opens her mouth wide, and wider yet. Greater than before, farther than something should be biologically possible to do so. The sound that emits from her is equally horrendeous and unnatural, a hideous hellscream that roars through the air tainted with dark magics within the headache inducing sound.

The thing is the sound, as terrible as it is, is just a disruption. The real trickery comes when Kauchemar follows it up by summoning several thunderbolts hurtling towards the Necromacner as well!

Remember, thunder is just the noise boys, it's lightning that does the work!
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Setsuna takes the brief moment of the disorientation to try and keep the pressure up. Using the flash step buff he tries his best to try and dash towards the singer as she begins to sing a rather horrible opera. His vision begins to blur and fade a little as he lets it become a tunnel vision on his target. Appearing right infront of her he taps her again on the nose and a grin appearing he is about to say those words that make everyone made when.... A bolt of lightning catches him in his chest, he isn't even sure where it comes from but it launches him backwards as he his the ground with a thud and rolls along it just laying for a moment before slowly getting to his feet. " Did anyone get the license plate of that car. It was bright yellow."
Uta
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Uta jumps up in the air to snatch slime that's been thrown into the stands. It's a feat of acrobacy worth of a Wuxia movie, with a backward spin. Once she lands on her feet, one can see that the catch was perfect because, well, for one, she's holding the slime in her arms, and for two, she's glowing all red Where she touches the slime -- seems like her newbie gi/uniform doesn't provide much protection against it.

"This is the happiest day of my life...", she whimpers, as two tears (of pain? Of joy? Her expression makes both an almost certainty) roll down her cheeks. And when the light subsides... There we go. More chip damage. And again. And again.

You can set your clock on that.
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Kauchemar would say something about that being rude, but the lightning strike does a fine part of that. But now that she knows what the 'Boop of Doom' does effect-wise, she can work her strategy around it. Which is mostly keeping her opponent jumping until she has a chance to deal with it again.

"Time to start the final act of the show." Kauchemar calls the Binder Shield back to her, grinning sinisterly. This time it's not a slime, just a glob of putrid filthy water and mud, the sort of thing one would see in the marshes the feral nightmares often call home, and lobs it at Setsuna.

Then water erupts in a rooster tail spray behind her to send Kauchemar surging towards the Necromancer as well, elemental water energies rolling around her like the crashing force of a wave as she brings the shield in front of herself like a battering ram even as the tide of frigid water crashes down around them.
Sunshine
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

As it happens, Setsuna appears to have an answer prepared: A particularly fitting one, too, matching weather with weather. In fact... much of what these two have brought to bear against one another seems evenly matched. It's quite like watching the classic duel between rival wizards; the main difference is in their respective styles. Sunshine's brow rises when Kauchemar seems to pull ahead, taken in by the distraction--assuming that bellow is where the damage is gonna come from. He'd likely have made the same play Setsuna did, opting for a Flash Step spell and just hoping that he'd be able to avoid the whammy, whenever it came.

"Woulda hit me, too," he admits.

What's that noise? It sounds like the distinct 'poing' of... of slime. Sunshine looks over his shoulder, to see Uta make her landing, slime in her arms and just tick-tick-ticking down at her HP. He gives a quick Inspect to watch the bar deplete. She'd mentioned talking about petting the slimes, and now she's willing to suffer a DoT just to hold one. Sunshine waves the menu away. "Oh. You're *that* Uta, huh." Yep, now he has a face to put to the name. "You, uh... you sure you're good to keep holdin' that?"
Uta
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Uta keeps shedding tears with metronomic regularity. "...Yes, I probably am that Uta... and no, I'm not sure I'm good to keep holding this..." Flash. Stream. The pitch of her voice is kicked up to almost squeaky level. "...but it's so adorable..." Pet, pet pet.
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Setsuna tries to avoid the spray of ice and water as he raises a large earth like mound infront of him but the defense is eroded away and Setsuna is pierced by the ice. His breathing heavy and ragged he stands shakily and looks at Kauchemar in defiance as he responds to the final act, " I appreciate you warming up the crowd for me." He begins to let his magic build up as his eyes begin to glow, " However don't go declaring this the end yet. I am not ready to bow out."
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

"No, not yet. No swan songs until it's proper time!" Kauchemar waggles a finger at him... and then remembers that he did successfully Dark BOOP her previously. Snorts some frosty mist out her nostrils. She's lucky she got off the attacks she did considering. "But I think you need to grasp how to properly keep your foe under pressure." Despite the setback she cracks her knuckles. "I guess its a good time to try this trick out." The biggest advantage the Binder Weapons give her is that she still has her hands free for other somatic needs and doesn't have to technically unwield a weapon to do so. She pulls a skull carved from stone, traces an arcane symbol on its forehead, and tosses it midway between the two of them. Hit its the ground with a light whunk.

And then a whole cascade of bones and skulls fall out of the aether to pile on the ground, forming some manner of bone and stone memorial like you'd see at an occult ritual. The eye sockets of the skull at the peak flare with ghostly flame, and the center of the formation opens gates formed from ribcages to lob glowing ghostly skulls out of it at an intermitten manner towards Setsuna.

It's also a convenient obstacle for Kauchemar to hide herself behind while using her own familiarity with Curses to dispel the ones Setsuna keeps booping her with.
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Setsuna's aura appears around him as he summons his skeleton warriors to match up against Kauchemar's new skeleton golem. However there is a level of quality difference this time, likely due to the exhaustion showing on the necromancer's face. HIs skeletons are much more brittle, despite the extra infused magic and the attacks of Kauchemars break his defense and knock him to the ground. The noxious fumes as well and everything else. It was all taking a toll. Standing back up slowly Setsuna looks out at Kauchemar and then his own health and considers for a moment but dismisses his summon in the end. " I tip my king over." The necromancer sits against one of the memorials and breaths a heavy sigh. " In case you don't play chess, that means I concede." Looking over at the spectators he shouts, " GIVE IT UP FOR KAUCHEMAR! THE WINNER!"
Uta
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Uta stares. She stares in hurt silence.

Tears flow down again, on cue. She sniffs, musters her courage, and puts one foot forward.

Head lowered, periodically flashing slime held in her arms, she walks up to the Nightmare, and once there, extends the slime towards her.

"As Setsuna said, I give it up for you." Another flash in her gloved hands, anothe tear of pain and a whimper. "...the winner. You go Kauch! I know this horse was going to win the derby!"
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

The bone monument gets smacked by the skeleton warriors a few times, but not hard enough to get to the Nightmare using it as a barricade before the summon dispatches the summons with it's ghastly projectiles. It takes a moment for Kauchemar to stand up from behind the summon. She's just wary enough to not immeadiately accept the surrender, until she's sure there's no sneak attacks coming after it. "Very well then!" she gives a wave of her arm, dismissing the summon and recalling the Binder Weapons, which she actually stores to her back like their normal counterparts. It keeps them where they can come forth at a moment's notice to protect her.

Then the nightmare trots over to pat Setsuna on the shoulder. "You didn't do too bad my friend! But when you're going to go slinging curses, you need to not let your opponent have the time to disperse them... Granted, I had my own familiarity with such subversive tactics to fall back on."

Then Uta speaks up, cheering despite being in pain. Because she... of course she did. Kauchemar sighs softly and shakes her head a little. "Excuse me." Then walks over to Uta and goes to grab the slime with her hand and hopefully wedge it out of the Spriggan's grasp. "I know how much you enjoy this Uta, but I'm not having the embarassment of my rival having a tombstone marker reading 'Death By Slime Petting'."
Sunshine
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

"I understand!" That is to say, he doesn't understand *why*, but he understands at least that she really likes slimes to the point of suffering for it.

It looks like the end of the fight is on the way--the tide turned rather dramatically in but a few moments. He supposes that's how it goes, when two casters square up. Setsuna's put up a good fight, by his reckoning, having a number of clever responses for Kauchemar's plays. Things didn't really seem to pull away in her favor until the misread on that lightning spell, but this bone monument of Kauchemar's seems like it'll put it away in her favor.

As soon as Setsuna concedes, Sunshine slides off the memorial, hands raised high as he gives a hearty round of applause. "Good job, y'all! Nothin' like a good 'ol wizard brawl." He sniffs, stretching. "And chin up, there, Uta," he says, as the slime is tearfully offered as a victory prize to Kauchemar. "If there's some gear or drink out there that'll let you pet them bad boys without burns enough to make you a mummy, well, I'm sure you'll snag it someday. Maybe I'll even keep an ear out, just for you, huh? Nobody ought to suffer for somethin' that makes 'em happy."
Setsuna
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

The necromancer looks at his ex-opponent and then smiles, " Yeah my curses don't exactly pack enough punch in them that people go out of their way to avoid them." He smiles sheepishly as he stands up , a bit wobbly. " You did good and I was impressed on the use of the binders. It was inspiring to say the least." His eyes track the charm and smiles at Kauchemar's joke before adding, "You'd think the game would give her the immune to slime damage buff eventually." His wobbly legs give out and he sits back down, " I think I will sit here a while and just take in the scenary."
Kauchemar
Dun Loireag - The Highland City

Being a Summoner secondary class and having the Handle Monster trait Kauchemar doesn't take the blips of damage Uta was. This is exactly why she's wary of summoning Slimes around the Spriggan, but that oppritunity was too big to pass up. At least Uta didn't try to run onto the field in middle of the fight. This time.

With the slime safely out of grasp Kauchemar walks back over and sits down next to Setsuna. "It is a nice view, if you're into that sort of thing." Even if she wasn't as far beat up she still needs a repise to catch her breath as well. Setsuna did keep her working for that victory.
