Seeing a Smith About a Bird

Rylen inquires about commissioning a special set of talons for his peko.

For a martial artist, there aren't a great many things that Rylen might need from a smith. He usually wears little to nothing in the way of armor, and his weapons are his fists, legs, and elemental magic. However, in a world like Elder Tale Online, there are always interesting ideas to be had, so Rylen had reached out to the New World Alliance's resident smith, seeking a moment of her time to discuss an idea that he had.

So, he probably looks a little bit strange, standing in the middle of Tolbana's main square with his peko. The Beastmaster seems to be sitting on one of the fountains, eating a bun of some sort purchased from one of the nearby vendors.

The peko squawks. "I'm sure she'll be here soon enough, buddy. Have some patience." The peko preens under one wing, then ruffles his feathers. "Yes yes, I'm sure she'll be able to help."

Rylen would spot the tiny smith trotting towrds him, tail swaying as she does so. She'll wave to the man for a moment. "Hey you sent word you wanted to talk to me? Well I have no pressing orders at the moment. What can I do for you." She also pauses pulling out a green and offering it to Rylen's Peco.

Moko tilts his head one direction, then the other, then eventually takes the offered green, chomping away at it happily enough. "See, I told you she's a good one, right?" The bird does not reply, because it is just a Peko.

Rylen offers one of his characteristic grins and flourishes a bow to Miho. "A pleasure, Lady Mythrilscale." When he rises up, he rests a hand on the Peko beside him. "It is actually for my friend here that I've sought your aid. Martial artists don't use much in the way of metal weapons or armor." He gives her a wink and an easy laugh.

"However, Moko here would like to find a way to be more useful to me when I have to go into combat. Not just as a mount, that is." Reaching down, Rylen lifts up one of the Peko's legs, the creature easily balancing on the other. "I was wondering if it might be possible to outfit him with some sort of metal claws which would go over his natural talons. To make him more capable in a fight."

Miho bows slightly. "Lady Mythrilscale here what can I do for you. I figured that much with you class though I do make other things you know. Oh I think i get it some claws to protect his talons and give them some better hitting poewer? I could do what what sort of material were you thinking Steel? Something else?"

"Well, seeing how well this goes, I might have a few more jobs for you in regards to my feathered companion." Rylen chuckles, "But one thing at a time." He lets the bird's talon go, and it quickly settles back down onto the ground.

Getting back to his feet, Rylen crosses one arm over his chest, the other hand lightly thumbing at his chin as he thinks to himself. "It would have to be a reasonably sturdy material, since he'd have to walk on them when he isn't fighting."

He swipes at his menu, pulling out a merchant's sigil, "I could probably trade this for some materials. Most of the merchants seem to value them pretty highly. We don't pick up a lot of metal in our line of work, normally."

Miho will squat down to get a better look art the Peco's feet if the bird will let her.

"Could base something on the clawed gauntlets use. So at least steel of some sort but we'll need to keep in mind it could and will get wet, exposed to things that would cause it to degrade. Aye, they do seem to value those. I used a pair of them to turbocharge one of our building projects for our city."

She thinks for a moment and nods. "Unless your mining or hunting elemental machines yeah I can see that."

Moko is remarkably well behaved, the Peko simply stands there and allows himself to be examined, though he does occassionally flap a wing or raise and lower his head as if observing the world around him.

"There are a few people in my guild and traveling circle who use bladed weapons, I'm sure they can teach me how to clean and maintain them after use." He reaches up, scratching the side of the Peko's head, while tucking the token back into his inventory. "Though I imagine I'll need to get them sharpened regularly. So you'd have quite a bit of repeat business."

He chuckles to himself. "Mining doesn't sound like much fun, and no... haven't run into an Elemental Machine, myself. I've mostly been up in Ninetails dealing with the undead. They fall as well to steel as to anything else."

Miho says "Good then we have nothing to worry about on that. I like repeat business!" She grins wider at this ass she ises up now and she shrugs "It's good exercise in this world isn't it you and a pickaxe after all." She stretchrs a bit as she thinks for a moment. "With their numbers we might need to take a page from America... we need Napalm." A horrible idea has formed in Miho's head she'll have to hit up some chemist sorts later about this.

"Oh, trust me, I get my fair share of exercise, m'lady." Rylen replies, still sounding amused as he shakes his head. "If Crescent Moon doens't have me doing tasks for them, I'm performing, and neither of those are easy things. I'm not sure I have the time to take up mining as another hobby."

He nods his head then, seeming to agree with her assesment of the situation in Ninetails. "We certainly could use something to help us clear the waves of lower level enemies. They always seem to stand in the way and keep us from getting to the real source of the problem."

With a sigh, he shrugs, seeming to accept that trouble like that is just part of this world of theirs. "So, how much do you think the claws will run, assuming I can provide the materials?"
Miho
Tolbana

Miho says "A lot of people are adapting to our new lives pretty well over there it seems. As for some though I worry what they will do and I think the tower is a ... skinner box trap. To keep them distracted from the real problem."

She thinks for a moment and gives a price estimate that's not too high but it's higher than a lander. Then again given her repuation? It may be warrented.
Rylen
Tolbana

"Mmm." Rylen is all too aware that many people don't have the same viewpoints on the game, the tower, and everything that goes with it. "I've seen enough of this world to leave me questioning a lot of things, but I do help with the tower sometimes." He taps over his chest, then gives another of those boyish grins, "Someone I care about is signed on to Scale Emblem, so I help out for their sake. But my first priority is to Ninetails."

With the amount given, the Beastmaster nods once more, "Give me a week or so to scrape together the funds, and I'll drop the coin off at your shop. I spend enough time around there that it shouldn't be a problem. I can even leave Moko with you for a few days for fitting purposes if you need."

He laughs then, "But it seems I'll have to do a few extra shows to raise the funds. Such is the life of a traveling performer."
Miho
Tolbana

Miho says "Sometimes we have to as there's something that will cause issues. I'm just worried it will drag everyone else back or worse if they get to the top. As for that I can get it, I used to have someone once but I was a dumb teenager and who would want to date the oni girl." She makes a face. "anyhow sure friend me so we can talk to eachother more easily. It should only take a day once i'm ready to do the fittings but if we need more it's good to know. Oh I might catch one of those..."
Rylen
Tolbana

Rylen seems to consider that for a moment. The man did have a diplomatic nature, which is why sometimes he was made to speak as a figurehead within Crescent Moon. "I certainly can understand why some people might prefer this world over the one we left behind. There are so many wonderous things here, and so many opportunities for people who might not otherwise have them." He admits, his voice gentle. "But I'll admit, I hope to someday meet the person I love in the real world. To show them that despite whatever faults they have that this world fixes... that isn't what matters to me."

As for her own story, the Pooka adds, "I don't know. I don't think you're an Oni. If I wouldn't get a certain someone upset, I'd probably have flirted with you." He winks in her direction. "If you ever need a hand with Pekos, I'm you're guy." He thumbs at his chest.

"I'll check in with you next week, then." He flourishes another bow, "A pleasure doing business with you."
