Shards of a Whole

The road home from the Wave had been particularly lucrative for Arashi. While the warhorse had found a single shard in the shrine they had escorted a particularly naive Lander back to, she had also found one in the aftermath of the fight with the Lord of Dawn, and finally one last one as she waited to board the ship back to Shibuya. All good. With the ones stashed away, she had reached a rather significant number.

That's why she'd been wandering about the town most of the day, sort of orbiting the forge, but never quite going in because some one she doesn't approve of owns the blasted thing. Bleh. The smith she's looking for would probably have heard she was searching for him. Why not on radio? She's still very, very protective of this particular bit of gear.

It seems that Kaydon was inside of the Alliance HQ, though it's not that far from the shop. Another adventurer had told him Arashi was looking for him. She seemed agitated, or at least that's the impression the young adventurer had gotten from her. Kaydon knew better, or at least figured he did.

He wanders that way, towards the warhorse, "Surprised to see you in town. Figured you'd want to meet in the middle of nowhere or something.."

Voice first, spotted second, Arashi at least offers the other a nod and a small wave before answering an inferred question, "What I need, you can't do in the middle of no where," she points out as she motions at the forge. "..much as I hate to be in there, we need to talk. .. In there." That may give the smith an idea of what she's after.

"Yeah." Kaydon replies, "I figured that's why you were lurking outside. Come on in then." Kaydon has a key..And as he promised, he has been keeping an eye on GIganpor in order to make sure he's not mass producing weapons for monsters.

There wasn't a need to ask. By this point Kaydon was trusted, so as a result, she just follows on in, making sure the door is closed behind her. Bleh. Still didn't like the place, but at this point it was a means to an end. Over to an anvil, and the first thing produced is that well-known broken blade of hers. Only after glancing around a little more, Arashi starts to set down these glass vials. Each one with a different shard, varying sizes, until there are ten set down around the weapon. "This probably isn't all of them, but it is a start. I'm wondering what you think, as you're really the only smith I trust right now."

Kaydon hmms a little bit as he picks up one of the vials and examines it closely, "How big was the sword originally?" He wonders, as he looks over the shard, turning it over a few times in his fingers, "Trying to figure out how many shards there are.." He muses faintly as he puts the shard down and picks up the blade, "What do you want me to do? Just extend it a bit?"

She has to think about it for a moment, but after she does she spreads her hands apart, "About this far," Arashi explains before folding up those arms. "I figure it's better to see them forged back in rather than carrying them around all the time, or stashing them somewhere," she explains. "Thing is, I don't know what kind of metal it is, to be honest, so it might be harder to work. I figure, I can try to research it while you see if you can work on it. Think of it as a mutual project. We'll probably both learn things in the process."

"That's fine." Kaydon turns the blade over in his hand and gives it back to Arashi hilt first, "If you trust me to keep the shards, I'll try to figure out if I can work them. I should be able to.." He muses, as he picks another vial up and dumps the shard out into his hand, "Not sure what kind of metal this is." He taps it against the anvil to listen to the sound it makes.

"I never really looked into it because, you know, blade wasn't broken before, and until now, I didn't really have enough shards to see what someone could do with them. With all these pieces, I figure you may be able to do something." At first she seems surprised, but takes the broken sword back, "I figured you would want this too, are you sure you can work without it?"
Kaydon

"Well lets see if I can even make an ingot out of these first." Kaydon says, "Though yeah, you should leave it.." He hmms, "I can get you something to use in the mean time.." He considers, as he scratches his chin for a second, "What's your preferred style?"

With a nod, the weapon is set back down on the anvil. "I.. heh. It's been so long since I've dual-wielded with the same size blades that I've sorta gotten used to almost being dagger and blade. It'd be nice to try and get back into the way I was fighting before. I'm not about to ask for anything special, Kaydon. Just something for now."

Kaydon hmms and moves over to a rack nearby, grabbing a few things off of it, "Big fuck-off battleaxe it is." He says, though from the tone he's probably joking...Probably.

Stare. She's REALLY hoping he's joking about that. "Uh. .. huh." More stare. He can't be serious.
Kaydon

He was kidding and turns around with a longsword, solid steel, looks like it was forged out of one solid piece of metal, and a smaller, at least relative to the sword, seax style blade, "I think these should hold you over for a while."

What she's used to at the moment it is! Both are given a good inspection but both seem to pass as they're set down a few moments later, "Works for me. Hopefully between the two of us we can figure out how to get those shards back together with the sword where they belong." Pause. Ponder. It won't hurt. "You should know the name of the weapon you're working on, Kaydon. Before it was broken it was called Starshadow." Even if he inspected it, the weapon would come up as 'broken blade'.

"Normally I'd check the wiki to see what the hell it is." Kaydon replies, as he gathers up the shards and the hilt, "This was a split blade from the looks of it." He hmms, and sets it out on a workbench, and then grabs a piece of chalk to try to sketch out a rough outline of where the blade SHOULD be.

Arashi can correct him if is design is off.

She'll be very, very specific about it. In fact, as he starts to draw the rough outline she moves over and starts giving some simple instructions. Wider, shallower, tip, tapers, all of the important bits. She -clearly- remembers every detail of the blades, that darkened metal, the widened tips, all of it. She quested a -long- time for it. If it is getting reforged, it's getting done correctly.

He follows the instructions as she directs him, changing stuff out, wiping off chalk and re-drawing as needed. Eventually he winds up with a good outline of it.

Once that's done, he transfers it over to paper so he can keep a good record of the dimensions and everything else he needs, "Everything look good?"

There's a long, long look taken over it, but finally Arashi gives a nod, "Can't get any closer then that without actually forging it. ... I'll start trying to find out what I can. Go find the Lander that set me on the quest, get around to some libraries, all of it. Meanwhile you can work with it and see what happens. The stuff is -really- sturdy, just a fair warning."

"I've got a couple of my own projects going.." Kaydon replies, "But I will do what I can to get it to work...You can trust me, I will get this thing working some day."

"Glad to hear it. Who knows, maybe it'll help you with your projects too, Kaydon." The 'new' weapons are picked up. "I'm going to go get some practice in with these. Keep in touch."
Kaydon

Kaydon gives a quick wave, "I may bring you in on one of my other projects..At least for material support. I know how you love to explore and search, so you may find the things I'm looking for. I'll reach out and let you know."

"Oh, sure. Be a good way to get some repayment in." That said she slips out, leaving the smith to tinker and see what can be figured out.
