Meeting the Landers: Roreil Dawn

A private scene for Kauchemar.

Chasing the stories left behind by one of their Alliance Members, Kauchemar has found themselves within the city of Takamatsu, seeking audience with one of its knights. Roreil Dawn, the 'crusader' of this particular Dukedom of the Fourland Dukedoms, is a common sight around here. And hard to miss, with the distinct kind of presence they carry.

As the dark horse approaches the docks, she can already see him coming down the planks. It's an arranged meeting, thanks to Proteus, so some of the introductions are quickly out of the way; "Ah, you must be the Were Fang I was told about. Kauchemar, am I right?" The man remarks as he gets closer to her, bowing his body in order to appropiately greet the woman before him.

"A pleasure to meet you."

Having the previous information and contacts established by Proteus did make this a bit easier task to undertake, though Kauchemar had no dillusions that it was going to be that simple the whole way through. Dreams worth chasing never are as easy as they seem.

Hooves clip clop lightly on the dock planks as she strides down with her usual confidence, but keeping herself a bit more composed than usual. Let's keep this professional, make a good first impression, and so forth. She will only get extravegant if something happens that requires her to go into performance mode.

The knight's presence is very hard to miss, and once he approaches the mare stops, sweeping one arm in front of herself as she returns the bow with her own as formality requires. "Kauchemar Tenebrae, bardic Muse of Olympus Alliance, at your service." She's essentially the guest here so she waits for Roreil to return upright first before she does so as well. "A pleasure, to be sure. I appreciate the help with this matter of interest."

The man looks Kauchemar up and down for a moment, before nodding his head. "I can only point you in the right direction on this one. I fear that I am not the one who holds the book you seek." He makes sure to explain to Kauchemar immediately. "But I can at least ask you the right questions for right now. Or rather, the right question - singular." The man explains, having risen from his bow.

"Are you prepare to ensure the future of this world is protected, whatever that future may be? Know that not all of the future is welcoming, or warm. That sometimes, things may need to be done to ensure that future comes to pass, and that you will be expected to act in accordance to the book at all times?" The question is firm and spoken with a tone that almost seems unlike the warm, if lawful knight. There's an intensity there.

"The previous one who came to me sought for other ways. And it may very well be that you and her will end up at odds due to something written in the Book of Sarla." Roreil points out.

As Roreil mentions he is only giving guidance and not actually have the book Kauchemar smirks just briefly. "Of course you do not. That would be far too convenient for such an important matter. Oh, if only things were so simple... but that would also be boring."

An equine ear flicks forward. The shift in demeanor, that hint of intensity beneath what had been a warm presence, does not slip past her attention. That brief smirk is gone, her own expression settling back into a stoic one that has a sort of haunting appropriateness on a face partially based on a monster known for grim omenic presences. "What you all say is true. The future is unknown, and uncertain. That is why many people fear it... but I would rather confront it, embrace it, and find the way to prosper it." She gives her head a slight shake, to flick the bangs out of her face so she can look at her conversation partner with a full gaze. "There are actions to be taken that may not be pleasant... but someone has to, or all will suffer because they were not.... and I fear more what the invaders from the other worlds will do to ruin this world, than any questionable actions that would need be taken to ensure it's sanctity."

There's a pause. A tilt of her head. "But I suppose you aren't going to actually tell me what." A bit of the jovialness has returned to her own voice, but it's superficial. Simply to keep the mood from sinking, but not straying from the serious topic. "That would be spoilers, after all."

"I do not know what a 'spoiler' is, but I fear I cannot tell you what the future holds for you, because from my understanding, each book is different. Each book plays a role. What yours will be, I do not know." The man pauses for a moment, considering Kauchemar. It's clear that his eyes are searching her, as if he's looking for signs of her being disingenuous.

But instead, he seeks that she is earnest. That she means what she says, and does not fear the future. "There is a library on the Fourth floor of the Tower, where a book was recently discovered. It lies within the mountains south of the Tower's entrance to the fifth floor. It is to you, the task to find this tower, climb to the top of it, and find a very specific book. It will not be the Book of Sarla. But there is only one book which you seek. When you see it, you will know it. Return to me once you have the book."

He pauses for a moment, before he adds; "The book isn't for me. But it will allow you to talk to Beatrice, who holds the only spare copy of the Book of Sarla at this time."

Kauchemar was not expecting a Lander to understand the concept of 'spoiler'... which is in part why she said it. A little test of her own, one could say. The fact that Roreil responds to it by admitting no knowledge of the term or contex, rather than just not seeming to register it at all, is simply more proof that he is more than the typical Lander. Suitable of the considerable presence he presents. "You are a wise one to not speak too deeply on matters you do not fully know. Only the details you do know, to be able to follow this trail farther."

One almost starts to wonder if the knowledge of this book getting to her, through those that did not find what they wanted in it, but would prehaps come to those that would, is in itself some matter of Fate. But that is to be seen.

She raises a finger to put to her chin thoughtfully. "To find a book, to convince one for access to the intended goal. Interesting how these matters play out... That's another interesting thing about fate and prophecies, sometimes you don't even know you're fulfilling them until they already pass... But even without more than a divining glance I would assume this to be an intricate matter of many steps. This is not an object one wants to fall into any random person's hands, after all."

"Hmmm, I think it's coincidence in this case, more than fate. Beatrice is a keeper of a library. And she will only trade a book for a book. There have been others who have traded for far different things." Roreil answers Kauchemar as she points this matter. The man then looks towards the castle behind her.

"If that will be all, I must continue. In the end, it's not me, or Beatrice you need to convince of your true intentions. It is the Book of Sarla itself. It does not open itself to just anyone." He points out, then begins to move past her, putting his hand on her shoulder. "Good luck, Kauchemar of the Olympus Alliance." Roreil Dawn declares, and passes her on by.

"Mayhaps. There is only one way to find out for sure." Kauchemar turns her head to glance towards the castle. "So it seems I have a fair amount of work ahead of me." She glasps her hands together. "Well then, so be it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained."

Impress the book itself... But to do so, she has to go through the ones that operate within it's sphere. Such as this librarian Beatrice. Hopefully the effort put into getting this book, to trade for access for a book, along with the afformentioned intentions, can ultimately net the results needed.

He pats her shoulder as he passes, and she nods in return. "Thank you for the assistance, sir."

There was a certain thrill to this matter though. Maybe this is part of why Proteus thrives on chasing mysteries so much.
