A Chat about Language

    Not long after the battle against the Wave, Miyako has been going through texts available in the Shibuya library, and frequently appearing disappointed and frustrated. It seems she just isn't finding what she needs.

    Eventually she sets it aside and goes in search of one of the few people she knows has been working with them: Merek. "Hey, friend," she calls as she finds him. "Got some time free? I'll buy lunch...."

    Merek looks then to Miyako, having come when she asked for him, that and him being about. The man nods a bit to the woman, "Hey, I'm free for a little, what do you need?" he asks, taking the time to adjust the strap about the waist.

    Miyako nods, smiling lightly. "Great, thanks," she starts, and pays for whatever meal Merek wants from the street vendors in town. She herself picks out some fried 'chicken' (as she insists on calling it, rather than 'cluck-cluck' as the Landers do) with a spicy sauce.

    "How've things been going with the Chaos Gates?" she finally asks.

    Merek looks then to Miyako while he thinks about the question, "Well enough, still learning new things, you know. All of that," he notes, taking the time to look to what's available. He will take a bite of the chicken.

    Miyako nods, and hmms at the taste of the chicken and sauce. "Need to find some blue cheese," she decides. "Good, though." She chews another bite while she mulls it. "I've been running into a bit of a sticky point with the catacombs."

    "What did you need to find in the catacombs?" Merek asks, while he takes a bite of the food while thinking about it. He seems to be listening for the moment. The man watches the place.

    "Mmm," Miyako muses, "not so much a thing, as an understanding. Everything down there is labelled in runes." She stops at another stall to buy a flagon of cider, giving it a quick sniff before taking a sip. "Of which I can read, maybe, two or three."

    "And, what do you need from me?" Merek asks, while he takes a look to Miyako.

    After finishing off her chicken and disposing of the bones, Miyako leans against a building to continue chatting. "Well, a copy of your notes on the runes would be nice. And an introduction to whoever else has been working on them."

    Merek looks to a paper which he takes from the pack of his, then he begins to write on that. The man notes a few things 'num rre lof enne enter' while he then will add a few notes. "Uta would know a little about it. That said, you should try to sing any songs the Landers sing if you come upon Alvian runes. If you think they're the same ones as on that Chaos Gate."

    "Right, I'll hunt up Uta when she's around, then. Thanks. And so far as I've seen they -seem- to be the same," Miyako answers. "But for all I know it might be an English/Cyrillic deal, with some things looking the same and some being totally different."

    "Well, I have a few notes on Gnomish I can share as well, though not a lot," Merek admits, taking the time to offer the paper to Miyako, which will include a few of the songs as well, or at least as much as one can transcribe the words to writing.

    Miyako nods, glancing over the paper, and tucks it away in her inventory. "Thanks for this. And yeah, any of the languages. Anyone started working on the monster tongues?"

    "Ah, not that I even know, I can see if anyone does. I don't know," Merek will mention to Miyako. "If I do, I will tell you," he then adds along.

    Miyako nods, "And if I hear, I'll let you know, as well. At least the translator lets us mostly understand them."

    Merek nods a bit then to Miyako, "Well, I... Think," he notes, "Anyway. I'll be about if you need me!"

    Miyako nods and smiles. "Keep in touch!" she says, "And thanks again."
