Gathering Starshadow

It had been a while since Arashi had entrusted Kaydon with her most prized possession, but her patience will have paid off. Kaydon pinged her on the communicator, and told her to swing on by the Lion's Forge, because he had a progress report for her.

What he hadn't told her was that he was done, at least in as far as he can with the number of shards that had been located thus far. He had no idea how many shards were still missing, and since their size could vary so much, it was impossible for him to estimate how many more she needs.

    Oh. Huh. A ping from Kaydon? That was an instant way to get her to the forge. She still was MEH about the place, but the end result justified it. So. Given about 15 or so minutes, Arashi wanders in, wondering just what it is Kaydon has managed to figure out.

Once she's inside, Kaydon turns and grins, "Arashi, my dear friend. Welcome. I know you're not fond of this place, but it's the best forge in town by leaps and bounds." He turns to lead her back towards the forges, to the same area where she first gave him the sword and the shards.

    The direshire gives a shrug, "We went over this when I first asked you about doing this so, it's fine," Arashi muses before following along. The forge? Must have figured out something about the alloy, maybe. .. hmm. It has been a while though. Who knows what he's up to.

"That book you got me really helped out." Kaydon says, as he steps around the forge and towards one of the work tables, "It had a lot of info about specific kinds of metals, but more importantly, it gave me a good idea of how to better idenfity metals.."

He steps over to a smaller device and opens it up, reaching in bare handed and pulling out the Starshadow, which is glowing red hot, "Each time I fix this thing, I'm going to have to re-temper it. But unlike the real world, it seems the magical elements of this allow it to be tempered repeatedly."

He plunges the blade into a container near his feet, and it shoots out a gout of flame that engulfs him for a moment.

    Oh, the book helped? Good! Very good. "Glad to hear it. I've been hearing there's a new area at that fortress that is in dire need of-" Oh. Ooooooh. Look at that. It's glowing red hot but there it is... about... half complete? That's fine with her. "Cleansing.."

    Into the quench it goes, getting Arashi's full attention. She understood what he was saying, but she had no idea Kaydon had made so much progress. "... Huh.."

Once the flames clear, Kaydon pulls the blade out of the quench, with it rapidly cooling off, "Do me a favor." He says, as he examines the blade, reading the stats on it now that its finished, "Go get me one of those swords over there." He motions to a spot nearby where there were several somewhat generic steel swords.

Perhaps very similar in design to what a goblin might have.

    "...Sure.." Arashi manages to say, but first she produces the 'lenders' that Kaydon had provided. "Before I forget.." she explains, setting the pair down before wandering over to one of the blades, taking one, giving it a swing, and then it gets to go over to Kaydon for, what she figures, will be quite painful for the offered blade.

Kaydon takes his loaners back, and sets them aside, "Looks like you kept up with repairs from the Landers.." He muses, then taking the offered blade from her and putting it aside for a moment. Then he finally turns her blade around and hands it to her, hilt first.

Once she accepts it, he takes the goblin blade, and fixes it in a vise, "Okay." He says, "Hit it." He figures she'll give it a few practice swings before she goes for the goblin blade

    "I mean, I wouldn't want you to give return my weapon all banged up and such, so, it's only fair," Arashi tells before graciously accepting Starshadow back. The weight is off but, well, that's to be expected until later. Swing? Yup. Second Swing? Yupyup. Kaydon is given an approving nod before she takes a close look at the weapon. No seams on the shards? Nice. Still has those jagged edges where the blades are incomplete, but well, that was to be expected.

    Hit a goblin blade? GLADLY. Of course she waits for the vise to go tight, for Kaydon to step back, then, swing!

Kaydon steps back, a few steps, and then Arashi swings at the goblin blade.

While Kaydon's damascus will cut through other blades, Arashi's is more of a shattering, turning the goblin blade into nothing more than shards. Irony, no?

"I wouldn't expect to see that result every time, but...I figured you'd at least enjoy the test."

    The way the other blade shatters is a surprise! It causes Arashi to backpedal a little before Kaydon explains. "Huh. I don't remember it doing that before. Interesting..." she muses, again taking another long look at the blade before setting it in a familiar spot at her back. That feels good. Mostly. Once that full weight is there it'll be better.

    "This is going to need a proper test run pretty soon. Like I mentioned, sounds like someone found a new area of Karluin that needs taken care of... that'll probably what I'll do. Soon."

"You know I'm down for it, just give me a ping once you're hitting it." He grins, "Alright I'm gonna clean up and pack up. Oh and I'm looking into what I need to do in order to set up my own forge in town..Just keep an eye out for an invite to help with that. I'll make you a VIP member."

    "Oh, good! I'll happily chip in on you getting your own forge, you really deserve it one way or another. You do good work! And don't give your weapons to goblins, even better."

"I'll keep you in the loop." He responds, "Plus I bet I can get some of the funding from Shiruba and the Silver Sword funds.." He muses, "Since it'll be for the faction first.."

"Makes sense to me. It;d be nice for anyone looking for a place to work." And that's all she will say about that. "Anyway, thanks, a -lot-. Hopefully it won't be a whole year to find a bunch more shards, and another chance for you to work on the blade again."

"Keep it up, I know you'll take care of it." He smiles, "And you're very welcome. Don't hesitate to ask if you need anything from me again. Especially once you get more shards."

    "Well, you seem to be around most of the time when I find them, so I figure you'll know when I find them. If not? Well, I'll probably just message you once in a while. You do good work, and I think at this point you're the only person I'll trust with this."
