Learning to MMO

Allynna is waiting, she did promise to teach Yeowang on how to better her mmo skills, since the woman's social skills arent really needed for any improvment. So waiting at the top of a hill in her iron plated armor, The Big Bad Bun Tank looks over the rolling medows at the roving packs of monsters, not too high level, so there is no real danger... yet.

Yeowang arrives at the agrees upon place for the training. Her fighting skills are not much in need of honing, they're pretty butch, though she seems dissatisfied with them and is constantly trying to skill up. But her general MMO knowledge is a vast, empty space. Of course, being squared away, she has sought out a way to remedy that weakness in her skillset as much as she is able.

She looks over the landscape at a glace. As a hunter, it doesn't hold too many secrets, though she's far from the best hunter. "I have arrived," she announces.

Allynna smiles and looks over her 'trainee' "Okay... so you wanna learn to MMO... this is gonna be easy." She bringsa up the party accept menu for Yeowang and smiles. "Oh, a shadowfist... great dps potential, really good if you chain your abilities." She says as she walks over towards where a huge toros (bull) grazes. "Okay so,, first thing is you have to propperly chain your abilities without hthe menu, this is easy, open with a rush, then starts a combo, it's opening move will be five seconds, RIGHT before it attacks, stun it, then perform a power move... like so..."

She says before demonstrating.

Allynna brings out her shield, and rushes the target, slamming into it before dojng a four hit combo, then a shield bash stun, and THEN she charges a holy smite and finishes it off. "See? It's all about timing your abilities to get the most out of your attacks, while this world may feel real, it still is based on a gaming system." She says with a smile, pointing to another one. "Okay now you try."

Yeowang blinks and chuckles dryly, nodding about the DPS potential. Her DPS is a thing she's quite proud of, and rather than argue the point, she will take her stance, and go through her abilities without a flicker of menu. She's also had 10 years of RL martial arts training and was an overpowering champion in MMA in RL, fighting without weapons is something that she's quite familiar with.

Selecting a nearby opponent, her combo move starts off with The Most Dangerous Game, a hunting attack, though just a warm up really, because she leads smoothly into a Flying Roundhouse Kick that cleans the toros's clock /hard/. It's a kind of low level area, but that was still a pretty brutal move.

"It's not the fighting I need help with," she explains after demonstrating the point, which hopefully shortcut any discussion on her in-game fighting skill. "It's the rest. The hunting and tracking and elemental, magical nonsense that trip me up," she explains.

Allynna nods, well at least she can confirm that the woman knows how to fight, which is one of the more important things. "Tracking is somthing I'm not familiar with, usualy I just have a guildmate track, but, magic, THAT I can help you with. So, what problems are you having exactly?"

Yeowang smirks about tracking. It's something she never did in real life, so she's got no idea how to do it here. "I mainly rely on the menu for it," she explains. "But that has its drawbacks." For much the same reason that attacking without the menu is the more efficient way to go.

"What problems?" she wonders with a smirk. "Well, no one's done magic in real life, so how do you do it without the menu?" she asks. "How do I make the casting of a ... spell, or whatever," she doesn't even have the vocabulary to talk about gaming things, "as efficient as a high kick?"

Allynna smiles. "Oh that's easy, you use an incantation... like says, my holy smite, while you probably didnt hear it, I mumbled the words Holy smite under my breath when i unleashed it, also some spells have cast times, others are channeld, you have to real your tool tips, then adjust them to be used without a menu. Most of my higher level spells are sung, because I have bard skills along with my tanking ones. " She says as she spots a group of goblins roaming across the fidls. "Like so..." She raises a hand to the air.

"When you think all is forsaken"
"Listen to me now"
"You need never feel broken again"
"Sometimes, darkness can show you the light"

The spell casts and pillars of pure light rain down on the pack of goblins, destroying them as she lowers her hand. "But yeah, without the menu, most spells are voice activated, some can be activated by movement as well." She says with a smile.

Yeowang blinks at spells being verbal, and seems genuinely surprised. "What? Magic words? How does that even work?" Seems she's missed that boat entirely. Apparently the only fighting abilities she has that use magic are activates by the motion of the attack. Or else don't work. "So, you just have to say some magic words?" she asks, her tone puzzled. "That seems ... unfortunate," she observes. "Inconvenient, at least. So, how do I learn these magic words?"

Allynna blinks. "Well, okay what spells do you have on your menu?" She asks, trying to get a propper baseline for Yeow so that she can give the woman somthing to work off of.

Spells? "I don't think I have -any- spells," explains Yeowang. But as she examines her menu, she says, "Well, healing's a spell, I suppose. It's not particularly useful." Which is to say, she doesn't manage to use it very effectively. "Some earth things," she reads off, "and some air things." None of her attacks, though. Which is proobably not an accident.

Allynna nods. "Okay the healing spell.. what's it's name?" She asks with a smile. "Because then you can cast it by sayng the name, and aiming your hand at the person you want healed." She then points a hand at Yeow. "Ola Repth!" She says as the soothing light based heal flows over the other woman.

Yeowang hrms, asks, "Ol Repth?" with a puzzled tone. It's a the single-target version of what Allynna casts, chosen because it's faster to cast, though if she's casting heals in a fight, something's gone very wrong. "Ol Repth?!" she says again, meaning to cast it this time, though her tone is still puzzled, and the spell comes off weakly. Or ... maybe not? It's hard to tell since healing at full health doesn't do anything.

"You have to put feeling into it, like you are commanding the magic to come out." She says as she takes a sword from her inventory, and stabs herself with it, a good thing the pvp flag doesnt pop when you hit yourself. "Oof.. that hurt, okay I just took a chunk of my health.. now.. please heal me." She says as she puts the sword away. She is als oglad it doesnt hurt as much as back on earth, else she'd probably be screaming in pain.

Yeowang blinks in surprise as Allynna stabs herself, and her first response is actually RL first aid techniques she knew as part of sports medicine. But as Allynna says to Heal, she looks resigned, but will make the attempt. For putting feeling into it, she barks "Ol Repth," like she's ordering a servant to bring the food tray over. With an absolute expectation of obedience. Surprisingly, to judge from her expression, the spell /does/ work, and Allynna can feel the healing spell take effect.

Allynna smiles as she watches her health bar fill back up. "There, see, like that, and you can cast other spells like that, just aim with your hand, and cast with your words!" She says as she rubs the now gone wound. "Get it?"

Yeowang hesitates, then says, "But that seems far too easy. I'm familiar with injuries, they're not so quick to heal." She of course means RL injuries, as one might suffer in martial arts competition. She's mostly familiar with them because her opponents tend to need hospitalization, but she understands the principle.

Allynna giggles. "Thats because we dont have magic on earth." She says as she pats the woman on the shoulder. "Remember, this is a game." She says with a nod. "and yes, it can get easy once you know the pattersn and exploits. Why do you think the whole time we have been here, I haven't died once?"

Yeowang ehs about magic, she can't argue about that. But as far as it being a game, she says, "I haven't died, either, but that's not so hard, is it? I've lived nineteen years, and in /all/ that time, I haven't died. Living's not -that- great a challenge. The main difference here is that you can check your hit points to see how close you've played it, and real life doesn't have useful guages like that."

Allynna nods. "Yep, well now that you know the basics, anything else you have to ask me?" She says with a smile, placing her hands on her oversized hips as she takes a heroic Bun-bun stance.

Yeowang looks up at the much taller bun-woman, and considers what else she might need to know. "Do you know about finding people? Or finding servers?" she asks, seemingly out of left field. "When I joined the game over a year ago, we had planned to meet online, using the game. But we had been stuck in Japan, or Yamato, for so long, unable to leave or talk to other servers. But now China is unlocked. But the person I'm looking for would be on the Korean server, if he's in game. But I don't know how to find that."

Nods and ponders that. "You'd have to have a sea exploration for that, from what I understand of the game, it's half the size of earth, while with trains japan might not feel big, without them it's pretty big." She says as she ponders. "But yeah, just like wit hthe palace lands, you'd have to FIND the server, or landmass."

Yeowang frowns. "And Japan's not a week from China unless you're swimming, so no telling how far Korea might be," she speculates. "Well, I will do what I can until it is found, I suppose." She can only shrug. "I suppose that answers my greatest questions," she admits. "Thank you for the training."

"No problem Yeow! When you get some tank skills, let me know, I'll teach you how to be a big bad tank." She says before wrapping her arms around the woman and giving her a big bun hug before setting her down on her feet. "Ja Ne!" She says in farewell as she walks off towards a line of trees.

Yeowang replies, "I'm afraid I'll never get ... urkh" and is cut off at the huge hug. When set down, she bids farewell also, bowing formally. She probably will never get real tanking skills, at that. As a Shadowfist, it's all about power and attack, and what defense there is is about staying away from where attacks happen.
