Duty Session 375: Bun-Bun Festival

    tSpring is in the air , pekos are chirping, flowers are blooming, and the buns...the buns. It appears they have returned in droves and the hunting guild has put out a request for help in keeping them under control. So here was Setsuna, outside of the near by town of beginnings waiting for any one else that the hunter guild has sent before he would set off to quell the bun uprising.

Yeowang has been sent by the Hunter's Guild, but her expression is confused. "I am here to fight ... bunbuns?" she announces hesitantly. "They are apparently a major menace to crops and Landers." She was too low level last year and wasn't involved with the event. "I think that's right. They're somehow different from rabbits?" She's not very up on the gamer knowledge, sadly.

    Fukaziroh ambles in her carefree way up the path, having naturally accepted the hunter guild task like she usually does. Duties are fun, profitable, and a great way of showing off! Today, however, she gets the impression this is a special, seasonal event.

    Deciding that Setsuna is the leader, based entirely on him showing up first, she approaches and rips off a textbook salute. "Captain Setsu, Lieutenant Fuka reporting for explosions as ordered!" she says. Then frowns. "Except I'm trying to cut down on the explosions as they do terrible things to my hair. That's okay right?"

    Setsuna looks at Fukaziroh as she greets him and raises an eyebrow, " Soooo, not a captain, not even a leader unless you are a monster." Snapping his fingers in the air a couple of time a skeleton knight comes out of some bushes and rubs at it's eye sockets like it was sleeping. " Yeah yeah, don't want to hear it you lazy bones. You'd gain weight if you weren't a skeleton." Looking at Yeowang he nods his head, " Thats my understanding, bun-buns are just the cute name for rabbits." At about this time a lander approaches and guides them towards some fields.

     When they get to the fields the landers are worked up into a frantic mess, "THEY ARE COMING!" It appears the buns are approaching quickly, one of them looks at the group, "Don't just stand there get to planting." It appears the trio has been drafted into being a farm hand.

    Not a captain huh? Fuka can work with that. "Whatever you say, Captain!" she salutes. And when he gives the next order, she obeys it.

    Yeah, that's definitely playing into Fuka's game, Setsuna. Especially the denial. That just makes it fun!

    Unfortunately, 'fun' is not terribly productive. Fuka doesn't exactly have a green thumb. She's not bad at earth magic, but for some reason is a bit reluctant to make use of it. So her pottering around in the dirt ends up rather ineffective. Enthusiastic, but ineffective.

Yeowang huhs at all the hubbub about /rabbits/ and watches with a puzzled exprssion as the landers rush out in a panic. So, dragged out to the farming field, she was not expected to be drafted into farming. She is absolutely not a farming type, and she does it poorly and hesitantly, not really getting the point. "Couldn't Landers be doing this?" she wonders. "How is this a task that requires adventurers?" She works slowly, deliberately, but mainly slowly.

    Setsuna tries to help plowing the fields but he keeps turning dirt into stone and isn't really helpful. The others don't seem to have any better luck either and they get scowls from the landers before one of them shoo's them out of the fields. Something about them being as bad as the buns. Then there is the call that the buns are coming, and coming they are. It appears they are charging the fields and many are shouting, " Stop them , catch them, DO SOMETHING!" All Setsuna can do is sigh as he looks at the buns.

    Fuka tosses a clod of dirt towards Yeowang, making no actual effort to hit her with it. "It's the bun bun festival. Get in the spirit of ... what festival does this represent anyways? Halloween by the look of Setsu." she muses.

    "Wait what?" she abruptly asks. "CATCH them? I thought we were blowing them all up?!" Fuka notes in dismay. Not too much dismay though. She actually does a pretty good job when the time comes, herding and luring bunbuns, driving them towards waiting hands or using her speed to rush and catch them like a hyperactive sugar-rushing fairy.

Yeowang has been told to capture bunbuns, or whatever these rabbits are called, and then there's a swarm of them. Even with the fields half-assed, they come, but the landers have placed traps for us to use, and Yeowang grabs one. "How is this supposed to be hard?" she asks, holding a scrap of herb through the back of the cage. A bunbun leaps in to grab it, and she gives it up, but closing the cage with her other hand. "Rabbit stew, I guess?" she says to Fukaziroh, taking another cage and more herb and repeating her strategy. It seems to be working. The rabbits that swarm her get punted far enough away that they take a bit of time wandering back.

    Setsuna fortunately brought extra hands and between himself and his skeleton he manages to gather a few bun buns up and put them in cages provided by the landers. Then the landers collects the bun buns from Yeowang and leaves them all in the care of Fukaziroh. Once the bun trouble is solved the landers come up over, " Thank you for your help. We have set up a game for the children to find eggs, and you are able to turn them in to the rewards. The children have already started but they asked if you would join in. " Appearently the adventurers have been asked by the children to help them find eggs, who could say no to kids.

    "It's not supposed to be hard. It's supposed to be FUN!" Fuka exclaims cheerfully. It's a festival after all, and this is a celebratory event. Even though the world is no longer a game, not exactly, it still operates with game quests and game rewards. Fuka's definitely enough of a genre-savvy gamer to get it.

    "Hm. I like rabbits too!" Fuka agrees. Only to look around when they're invited ot the egg hunt. "You can't hunt eggs." she notes. "Wait, rabbits lay eggs? Oh whatever, I'm going to hunt eggs!" she says enthusiastically. Yeah, still a kid at heart. Fortunately she's very good at it!

Yeowang arches a brow at the task of finding bunbun eggs. "This seems quite similar to the western children's holiday," she remarks, but of course the fun bits have been exported to Japan. But since we've been asked, she will participate, and she does wind up finding a bunch of eggs. "I am not clear on how this celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, but ..." she shrugs and finds more eggs.

    Setsuna looks at the lander who invites them to egg hunts and well Setsuna doesn't participate. He may meander around but he doesn't try, in fact when he looks at one of the kids he just gets a frowny face and walks over to a table and finds some celebratory wine. It is decent wine. Fortunately the others do work with the kids to find eggs and they are very happy for it. At this time another old lander walks up and smiles, " So kind of you all to help the children, could you please help us with the cooking and preperations for todays banquet?" Yes somewhere in the fine print of the quest provided by the hunter's guild was you will do whatever the landers ask.

    "Are you kidding? I'm AMAZING with a knife!" boasts Fuka. Only to be handed a chef's knife. She frowns at it. "It's a little small." she notes. "Not that I'm a size queen! Size doesn't matter or so I'm told!" she shrugs, and sets to work.

    She is, however, much more enthusiastic at her knife-wielding than skillful. She is, in fact, terrible at it. But she's having fun and that's what counts!

Yeowang listens as she finds out our next task is to prep the bunbuns for cooking? "Well, okay?" she says, and sounds hesitant. But going through her skill menu, she finds a command for this, and triggers a buff skill, then starts menu-prepping the bunbuns, and it seems to go off without a hitch. She's not menu /cooking/ them, it seems the menu gutting abd skinning doesn't trigger the ruining of the game.

    Setsuna sighs and takes out his knife as he approach the buns that were caught and well does what needs to be done. Working with Yeowang and Fukaziroh all the bun meat is quickly prepared and the banquet is quickly put together. It's like the moment they completed their task everything else was magically done. However, it's not quite time to celebrate as when the food is already and being handed out there is the sound of children screaming. Setsuna hadn't thought there cooking was that bad. Suddenly he sees it, " Over there, " the necromancer is pointing in the direction of a Were-Rabbit. Tilting his head he is confused, " What is the difference between a were-rabbit and a werefang rabbit?" Setsuna asks as he begins to approach the monster, ready for combat.

    "Were-rabbit? THERE rabbit!" Fuka points. No, no way she'd miss that one. Too easy. She sets off at a charge towards it, happy to put her knife skills to better use than cutting up meat. Or rather, cutting up meat on a different sort of scale!

    The little blonde fairy puts herself right in the werebunny's face, holding herself in an aggressive counterstance that means it can't attack her without getting a face full of furiously sharp pain. And a face full of Fuka too for that matter. This may or may not involve biting her, but it almost certainly involves blood and screaming.

    Soon enough it's over. Fuka mops her brow dramatically. "Well that was fun. Is this only a once-a-year festival? I want to do it again soon!" she says enthusiastically.

Yeowang says to Setsuna, "I think a werefang rabbit isn't so eager to kill everyone they meet." She looks over towards the screaming and will break off from the food prep for a bit of adventurer work. She takes a breath and steps up, taking stock of the monster. Then, with a flick of her eye, she's in motion, a flying leap that ends in a roundhouse kick, catching the monstrous bunbun in the head hard enough to stagger it. She hits hard, continuing with punches and kicks, advoiding it's counterattacks neatly as she and the others quickly burn it right the hell down.

    Setsuna looks at Yeowang and raises n eyebrow, " You haven't met Wisteria in a bad mood." It is a bit of a dry comment, but there may be humor behind it . Anyways on to the fighting as he looks at the knight and shouts, " Raise your warriors and go handle that damn ...were you letting the children draw on you?" TThere is a heavy sigh as the skeleton knight and a few skeleton minions charge the were rabbit, with the skeleton knight sporting flowers and dogs and art kid art drawn on it in random spots, including a tic tac toe game that ened in a drawn.
     Moments later the were rabbit is dead and the lander is providing them all with packs of bun items , and some of the bun bun stew as well to go. Alls well that ends well it seems.

Yeowang has, in fact, not met Wisteria in a bad mood. But she says, "Somehow I doubt she'd attack a gather of Landers wit children with murderous intent." Or maybe she doesn't know Wist /that/ well? But when the fight is over, she will look over the reward with a curious expression.

    And here Fuka was told she needs to get in touch with Wisteria. Maybe she should just do it all over chimlink? Naaaah, Fuka knows her charm. She'll be just fine in person! Probably. These two survived right? Probably.
